Prior to her tragic death, USA Today reports that Grimmie was signing autographs when a man walked up and shot her. ABC’s WFTV 9 reports that Grimmie’s brother, Mark, was able to tackle the shooter, who then successfully turned the gun on himself.
The Mirror reports that Grimmie is believed to have been shot twice in the head.
Fans mourned on social media, with comparisons being drawn between Grimmie and Selena on Reddit, a Tejano singer who was murdered in 1995 at the age of 23.
