Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump will speak at the Values Voter Summit in Washington, D.C. this afternoon.
The event will run throughout the day, but Trump’s speech begins at 3:30 p.m. Eastern Time. It can be viewed in the embedded YouTube player via Right Side Broadcasting.
The Values Voter Summit is an annual conservative conference which has been held in Washington, D.C. every September or October since 2006. It is hosted by the Family Research Council, a Christian lobbying organization that opposes same-sex marriage advocates for religious liberty and family values.
“We oppose the vigorous efforts of homosexual activists to demand that homosexuality be accepted as equivalent to heterosexuality in law, in the media, and in schools,” the group states on its website. “Attempts to join two men or two women in ‘marriage’ constitute a radical redefinition and falsification of the institution, and FRC supports state and federal constitutional amendments to prevent such redefinition by courts or legislatures.”
Donald Trump has asked for the vote of LGBTQ Americans, saying he will fight for them as president.
Governor Mike Pence, Trump’s running mate, will also speak at the Value Voter Summit this afternoon. The Indiana governor signed into law last year the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, which LGBTQ groups argued would essentially legalize the discrimination of gay Americans. It would go on to be used as the central argument in the controversy surrounding Memories Pizza, an Indiana restaurant which famously announced last year that they would refuse to cater a same-sex wedding.
Also attending the Values Voter Summit are Allen West, Rick Santorum, Michele Bachmann, Laura Ingraham, Marsha Blackburn, Louie Gohmert, Reince Priebus, and more.
