Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump will hold a rally in Wilmington, North Carolina this afternoon.
Trump will speak to supporters at the Wilmington International Airport beginning at 1:00 p.m. Eastern Time. The rally can be viewed live in the embedded YouTube player via Right Side Broadcasting.
It makes sense that Trump is spending time in North Carolina today, as this is one of the key battleground states he needs to win on November 8th. North Carolina is worth 15 Electoral College votes, and so if he wins all the important swing states but loses North Carolina, that would put him down to 255, far short of victory. The only realistic way he could make up for a loss in North Carolina is by securing Pennsylvania, a state that Hillary Clinton is expected to win.
Luckily for Trump, the Republican candidate has a very good shot at winning North Carolina, although the race is still incredibly tight. He’s ahead in the North Carolina polls by less than a point on Real Clear Politics’ polling average, and FiveThirtyEight projects that he has a 51.8 percent chance of victory in the state. Hillary Clinton has also been spending time in North Carolina in recent days; she doesn’t necessarily need it to win, but she hopes to deny Trump a victory there and therefore make his pathway to 270 that much more narrow. It’s presumably for that same reason that she will hold a rally in Ohio on Sunday.
Trump has an incredibly packed schedule on Saturday, with four rallies today spanning from 10:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. After his stop in Wilmington, Trump will head to Reno, Nevada and then to Denver, Colorado.
