The worlds of politics and professional wrestling collided today when Triple H and Stephanie McMahon attended the confirmation hearing of Linda McMahon, President Donald Trump’s nominee for administrator of the Small Business Administration.
In her opening statement, Linda McMahon introduced her daughter and son-in-law to the committee.
“I’m very proud to introduce this morning my daughter Stephanie and her husband, Paul Levesque,” McMahon said.
Stephanie McMahon and Triple H then stood up and received some applause from those in attendance. The two remained seated to McMahon’s right throughout the rest of the confirmation hearing.
While questioning Linda McMahon, Senator Tim Scott revealed himself to be a big WWE fan, saying, “One of the things you mentioned…certainly looking for qualified local employees, I assume you’ve had some success with local qualified employees like Triple H and The Rock and other folks.”
Linda McMahon is the co-founder of World Wrestling Entertainment. She left the company in 2009 in order to run for a seat in the U.S. Senate, but she ultimately lost to Democratic candidate Richard Blumenthal.
Linda McMahon’s 40-year-old daughter Stephanie McMahon serves as the chief brand officer for World Wrestling Entertainment, and she is also commissioner of Monday Night Raw, appearing on almost every episode of that show. Triple H is her husband; the two were married in 2003, and they have three daughters.
The nomination of Linda McMahon was surprising to many who do not closely follow the world of professional wrestling, but Donald Trump has for years been a personal friend of the McMahons. In fact, President Trump is a member of the WWE Hall of Fame, and he has appeared a number of times on WWE programming, once shaving Vince McMahon’s head at WrestleMania.
The McMahons gave $5 million to Trump’s charitable foundation between 2007 and 2008, and Linda McMahon donated $6 million to Trump’s presidential campaign, according to The Washington Post.
