President Donald Trump and his wife, Melania, reunited in Palm Beach, Florida at their palatial Mar-a-Lago estate, now known as the “winter White House.”
The couple dressed up for the Red Cross ball at the Palm Beach estate on the evening of February 4:
Until the Mar-a-Lago vacation, the First Lady had only been seen one time publicly since the day after the inauguration, raising speculation about why she wasn’t in Washington D.C. more and whether she’s ever going to move there. Melania, 46, and the 70-year-old president have been living apart for now as she focuses on motherhood; she’s stayed in New York while Barron, 10, finishes his school year so as not to disrupt his life, and he’s at the White House. His daughter, Ivanka, accompanied Trump when he went to Dover Air Force base to meet the body of a fallen Navy SEAL earlier in the week.
However, the Trumps are spending the weekend together in Florida. A series of photos captured their reunion:
Security was heavy at the estate.
Although Melania has started hiring staff, and the Trumps have said she will move to DC when the school year concludes, recent reports have alleged the FLOTUS is considering staying in New York, an account which a spokesperson denied.
However, Melania resurfaced February 3 at the airport in Palm Beach, Florida with the POTUS.
Security costs run steep whenever a president vacations; Politico estimated that the bill could cost as much as $3 million.
Melania wore a short, red dress at the airport. In some photos, the Trumps held hands, but in others, their body language appeared distant. Melania had a somber expression on her face in many of the photos, but cracked a smile at times.
According to The Huffington Post, Donald Trump is also planning “a Super Bowl gathering at his Trump International Golf Club in Palm Beach.” The president is also expected to make weekend calls to the leaders of New Zealand, Italy and Ukraine, Huffington Post reported. Vice President Mike Pence is attending the Super Bowl.
The Huffington Post reported that the Red Cross ball has been held at Mar-a-Lago before.
Trump had previously criticized then President Barack Obama for taking vacations while in office. The Trump vacation comes in the midst of major legal battles; a federal judge on Friday, February 3 issued a temporary restraining order blocking Trump’s controversial executive order on immigration.
