An Ohio man is accused of holding a female neighbor hostage in a pit under the floor of a shed.

According to Andrew Setters of WLWT-TV, police were processing Dennis Dunn’s home on April 26 “after a 30 year old female neighbor was found captive in a pit under the floor of his shed.”

Here’s what you need to know:


1. Dunn Is Accused of Covering the Pit With a Wooden Board

Authorities accuse Dunn of erecting a wooden barrier to keep his neighbor from escaping.

Jordan Vines of Fox19 reported, “Dennis Dunn charged w kidnapping in Blanchester. They say Dunn put victim in a pit inside a locked shed & covered pit w/ wood board.”

Fox19 described where the woman was kept this way: “She was kept captive down a pit dug at the bottom of the shed. A wooden board covered the pit and was held down by heavy objects.”

According to WKRC-TV, the woman was held in a well inside the shed.


2. Neighbors Heard the Woman’s Cries & Alerted Police

The woman managed to cry out loud enough that other neighbors heard, and she was rescued.

Vines reported that police said “neighbors heard cries coming from inside shed behind a home on Central. When police arrived, they found a woman locked inside.”

The first officer on the scene also heard the woman cry out, reports Fox 19.


3. Police Are Conducting a Search of Dunn’s Home

Police sought a search warrant to go through Dunn’s home.

“Blanchester Police have obtained search warrant for Dennis Dunn’s home; they are processing the scene inside at this time,” wrote Vines.

WLWT ran a video of Dunn being taken into custody.


4. The Woman Was Found in the Backyard & Dunn Has Known ‘Mental Issues,” Reports Say

The pit where the woman was found was in a shed in the backyard of Dunn’s home, police said.

According to Fox 19, “The suspect has known mental issues and was taken to Clinton Memorial Hospital.”
