A car full of burglary suspects crashed and sank into a pond along Flint River Road in Clayton County, Georgia.
You can watch video of the submerged car above. The video shows the car upside down in the water. Three men wanted in a burglary investigation drowned in the incident. A fourth man fled on foot and is being sought by police.
The vehicle was lifted out of the water by authorities.
The suspects’ vehicle crashed into a private pond.
The driver of a second vehicle was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
A WSB-TV reporter said on Twitter that the suspects were wanted in a burglary before the crash, and authorities lifted the submerged car from the pond on May 15.
Fox 5 reported that the incident started with a heist around 4:30 a.m. at a Sprint PCS store on North Highway 85 in Fayetteville, Georgia. “A grey Chrysler was seen leaving the scene,” reports Fox 5. According to AJC.com, a witness saw men get out of the car and smash the window of the store.
Portia Bruner, a reporter with Fox 5, reported that cousins of the men who died had arrived at the pond. The names of those who died had not yet been released.
According to Bruner, the police chief said the four suspects in the car all had criminal records in Clayton County, and police were planning to release a description of the living suspect who fled the scene. Officers went into the water to try to rescue the men to no avail, reports AJC.com.
The vehicle was “discovered upside down,” according to 11AliveNews, quoting the deputy police chief. The television station reported that a “store security guard confronted burglars who fled scene. Called 911. Suspect vehicle spotted.”
According to Fox 5, after the 911 call came in, a deputy spotted the Chrysler and pulled up behind it along Flint River Road. That’s when the car crashed into another vehicle and then flipped into the pond, reports the television station.
Two of the men had active arrest warrants, reports AJC.com.
