WATCH: Sean Spicer Won’t Say If Donald Trump Is Recording Conversations

White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer today repeatedly refused to say whether President Donald Trump is secretly taping conversations in the Oval Office.

On Friday morning, President Trump tweeted, “James Comey better hope that there are no ‘tapes’ of our conversations before he starts leaking to the press!” He’s referring to the fact that he says he spoke with Comey on three occasions over the past few months and that Comey told him he is not under investigation.

At the top of the press briefing today, Sean Spicer was asked if President Donald Trump is taping conversations or has a White House recording system; Spicer would not answer.

“The president has nothing further to add on that,” Spicer said.

Minutes later, a different reporter followed up on this and directly asked Spicer if Trump is taping conversations. Spicer again would not say.

“The president has no further comment on that,” Spicer said.

Spicer today was also asked if Trump’s tweet about James Comey should be taken as a threat.

“That’s not a threat,” Spicer said. “He’s simply stating a fact. The tweet speaks for itself,”
