A suspect has been named in the double murder of two Christian camp counselors who were found shot to death in their sleeping bags in what was called the “Jenner Beach slayings.”
According to the Press-Democrat, Shaun Michael Gallon, 38, is accused of making “statements implicating himself in the slayings of Lindsay Cutshall, 22, and her fiance, Jason Allen, 26.”
Shaun Gallon has not yet been charged with the 2004 deaths, however. He is already accused of a third murder. Based on his Facebook page and criminal convictions, it appears that Gallon has a fixation with bows and arrows, as well as knives. Cutshall and Allen were found still zipped inside their sleeping bags along an isolated beach.
Here’s what you need to know:
1. The Two Counselors Were Found Shot in the Head on a Beach
The slayings of Cutshall and Allen shocked the community at the time in part because of the random, brutal manner in which they died.
“Allen, from Michigan, and Cutshall, from Ohio, were working at a Christian youth white water rafting camp in El Dorado County and went on a three-day site-seeing trip to the Northern California coast,” KCRA reported.
The bodies of Cutshall and Allen “were found tucked in their sleeping bags. Both were shot in the head at close range with a rifle,” reported KCRA.
Gallon had posted photos of a beach on Facebook:
According to ABC 7, “The two Christian youth-camp workers were still zipped into their sleeping bags, and authorities believe they were shot in the head as they slept.”
2. Gallon is Accused of Murdering His Own Brother
The Jenner beach murders would not be the first homicide that Gallon is accused of committing.
He’s sitting in jail already because authorities allege that he murdered his own brother. Gallon “was already in jail on suspicion of fatally shooting his younger brother, Shamus Gallon, 36,” reports the Press Democrat.
Gallon, of Forestville, California, is accused of shooting his brother “multiple times with a .223‑caliber rifle,” the newspaper reported, even though there was no history of lingering conflict between the siblings.
3. Gallon’s Facebook Page Includes Pictures of Weapons & Rambling Comments About Sex
Gallon has a Facebook page that says he’s in a relationship and from San Francisco. It contains pictures of him with a knife, wearing a gas mask, and photos of bows and arrows.
The Facebook page contains strange ramblings about sex and other things. He only has 12 Facebook friends on the page.
His last public post, on March 24, read, “SAY MEGA MOTHER DUTHERT.” He also wrote such bizarre status posts as, “LIKES SEX FOR THE BODY” and “WRITES SEX WITH YOUR MOTHER” and a series of nonsensical sex-related comments, all on the same day.
In previous posts, he wrote things like, “CHECK OUT THIS NICE SPEAR I MADE” and expressed concern about Russia, writing, “NOT THAT I NEED TO SAY IT BUT THE NEW THIRD REIK NATO IS IN A NUCLEAR WAR WITH RUSSIA RIGHT NOW I’M NOT KIDDING! LOL! DUN DUN DUN DUNT DA DUN DUNT DA DUN (DARTH VADER MUSIC) THEY JUST HAVN’T TOLD YOU YET HELLA FUNNY!”
He also wrote a lot about Nazis, Syria, Muslims, and the Koran, although it’s hard to make sense of how he intended the comments. In one post he wrote, “THE QURAN: “AND I GIVE YOU EVERY ANIMAL OF THE EARTH AS FOOD AND ALL THINGS THAT ARE GOOD ARE YOURS.” He also wrote, “WHY IT’S SO FUNNY HOW ARTEMIS A MOON GODDESS WITH A BOW WITH ARROWS TIPPIED WITH THE SUN A HUNTRESS THAT DRAWS BLOOD IS NOTHING LIKE THE FIRST HORSEMAN.”
Religious ramblings fill his page. They include, “SO SEEMING HOWS I AM A HOLY ANGHEL OF THE LORD AND HAVE ALL THIS KNOWLEDGE AND INFORMATION AND WHEN YOU BECOMES THE LORDS BRIDE YOU ARE MARRIED WITH A GOLDEN RING (A HALO) AND WINGS I WOULD LIKE TO TELL SOME OF MY STORIES FROM THE WAR BECAUSE I ALWAYS TALK TO MY FELLOW ANGHELS OF HEAVEN.”
4. Authorities Accuse Gallon of Having Information About the Beach Murders That Only the Killer Would Know
With Gallon sitting in jail accused of his brother’s murder, authorities seized the opportunity to ask him about the beach slayings, although it’s not clear why.
It was then that Gallon allegedly “had information about the killings that no other person could have known, and we have located evidence that corroborates his statements,” according to Sheriff Steve Freitas, of Sonoma County California, who held a press conference on the crack in the case on May 5.
Freitas said it’s not believed that Gallon knew the beach victims, and the motive for the shootings is not clear.
5. Gallon Was Previously Convicted of Shooting at Two Men With a Homemade Arrow
Gallon’s problems with the law are extensive.
According to the Press Democrat, “Sheriff’s deputies have had 13 contacts with Shaun Gallon since 2003. The calls included misdemeanor issues involving trespassing and suspected drunken driving as well as felonies, including an arrest in a 2009 that led to his conviction for assault with a deadly weapon for shooting a homemade arrow at two men in a vehicle.”
