Tanforan Mall Shooting In San Bruno Injures At Least 2

An active shooter was reported at the Tanforan Mall in San Bruno near San Francisco.

There were conflicting reports on how many people were injured. Some sources reported two were injured, and others reported four people were injured. Police are looking for two suspects.

One teenager was in critical condition and another teenager was in serious condition after the shooting, according to Alex Stone, and ABC News correspondent.

Dion Lim with ABC 7 News reported police were looking for two suspects. Both were male and one was wearing a green hooded sweatshirt.

San Bruno Police Chief Ed Barberini told ABC 7 there was “intent” behind the Tanforan Mall shooting. It was not a random shooting.

San Bruno Police confirmed they are investigating a shooting and said to stay away from the Tanforan area.

“Please stay out of the Tanforan area – San Bruno Police Department is on scene investigating a shooting,” San Bruno Police wrote on Twitter. “We will update when we have more information. Thank you”

The San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit service reported they closed the station near the mall. It was later reopened.

“We have received reports of an active shooter at Tanforan Mall outside San Bruno station,” SFBART wrote on Twitter. “As precaution, trains are not stopping and the station is closed. Trains are running through San Bruno.”

Edwin Spencer shared a Facebook Live video of people fleeing the mall and police with weapons drawn positioned at the doors. He said the video was sent to him by a friend. Watch the live video from Daniel Camacho.

Camacho said on the Facebook live video he saw “them take two people out.” It was unclear whether the people were injured.

Local reporters said on Twitter they were on their way or at the scene. Police asked media to stage in the Century Plaza 10 Theater parking lot.

Some people in the area wrote on Twitter about a heavy police presence.

One man wrote, “Just saw about 100 cops with protective gear and guns drawn at #tanforan mall. Stay away!”

The BART system is redirecting its trains away from the area. SFBART wrote on Twitter, “UPDATE: Trains in SFO/Millbrae direction are being turned back at South San Francisco as the situation in San Bruno continues.”

A shuttle train will run between SFO and Millbrae.”

ABC 7 news reported Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital was on an alert to expect victims.

The Shops at Tanforan is a regional mall with more than 100 stores in San Bruno, located about 10 miles south of San Francisco.

One Witness Shared Facebook Live Video

Camacho said on the video he saw two people being taken out. It was unclear if they were injured. Those in the mall were apparently being asked by police to stay in an area cordoned off by police tape near a parking entrance.

He said on the video he was in the mall with his wife and two children, ages 2 and 10. He ran out holding the toddler with his 10-year-old son running alongside him.

“My 10 year old, he was next to me. He was scared,” he said.

He said it was difficult to hear where the sound of gunfire was coming from. His wife didn’t immediately process the noise, he said. Everyone started running. His first instinct was to run toward the police station, which is nearby, he said.

Camacho said they were at the mall to watch Spider-Man. The family arrived for the movie around the time of the shooting.

“I was a little bit late to the movie, which was actually a good thing because,” he paused and trailed off, then added, “Shoot.”

His son seemed skittish on the video as he and his dad made their way to the car in the parking garage.

“I don’t think that’s a good idea,” the boy said repeatedly.

“We’re gonna get caught and shot,” the boy added.

His dad comforted him, saying they were safe now.

This is an unfolding story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
