Relief pitcher David Robertson is returning to the New York Yankees in the deal that also brought Chicago White Sox third baseman Todd Frazier to the Bronx. Robertson is married to Erin Cronin Robertson and the couple have two young children. They have been married since 2009.

The 32-year-old Robertson was drafted by the Yankees in the 17th round of the 2006 draft and made his MLB debut in 2008. Robertson stayed with the Yankees until 2014, picking up a World Series ring in 2009 and taking over the closer role after Mariano Rivera’s retirement. After the 2014 season, he signed with the White Sox as a free agent.

Robertson was part of a big package deal the Yankees and White Sox reached on July 18. The Yankees got Frazier, Robertson and pitcher Tommy Kahnle for outfielders Blake Rutherford and Tito Polo and pitchers Ian Clarkin and Tyler Clippard.

With Robertson returning to the Yanks for the rest of the 2017 season, here’s a look at his wife Erin and their young family.

1. The Couple Co-Founded the High Socks For Hope Foundation to Help Families Affected by Natural Disasters

After Robertson’s hometown of Tusaloosa, Alabama was devastated by a tornado in 2011, the Robertsons founded High Socks for Hope: The David and Erin Robertson Foundation to help people in areas affected by natural disasters. Erin is the executive director of the foundation, while Robertson is president.

The foundation also helped families in New York and New Jersey after Hurricane Sandy, as well as victims of storms in Oklahoma, Illinois, Texas, Alabama and Louisiana. They also focus on helping homeless veterans.

“Five years ago when we established High Socks For Hope, we thought we would just help Tuscaloosa. We never dreamed that with the help of our supporters, we would end up giving hundreds of natural disaster survivors and homeless veterans a foundation for a new start with a furnished home,” the couple said in a statement on their site.

Most recently, WIAT reported that the foundation helped Bruce Hughes rebuild his house in Pickens County, Alabama after it was destroyed in a 2016 tornado.

“It just shows you that God still has people that care and love people in this world,” Hughes told WIAT. “Praise God because I know they didn’t have to do it but praise God for the blessings that they did send my way, and I am just overwhelmed by it.”

2. She Helped Design Their Chicago Home, Which Has a Rooftop Playground

When they moved to Chicago, the couple was very excited. In an interview with MLB.com, Erin said Chicago was one of her favorite cities to visit. She also liked how the city is “kid-friendly,” since their son Luke was only two years old when Robertson signed with the White Sox.

The home also had a rooftop playground, so Robertson could toss a ball around with his son. MLB.com notes that she helped design the home.

“It’s the time away from each other that can be a big challenge,” she told MLB.com. “The time when he is gone for 10 or 12 days — it’s hard. But it makes us appreciate those times together. We do value that family time and do much more when we are together, like exploring this city.”

3. Erin Is Dedicated to Stopping Pancreatic Cancer Since Her Father Died of the Disease at Age 60

Another cause close to the Robertsons’ hearts is fighting pancreatic cancer. In April, the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN) announced that the couple participated in the PurpleStride Chicago walk.

The couple have been PanCAN volunteers since 2009. Six years after first volunteering, Erin’s father, Rick Cronin, died from pancreatic cancer six months after he was diagnosed. He was 60 years old.

Erin’s family also created the Rick Cronin Memorial Fund. Rick was born and raised in Brookline, Massachusetts and followed all Boston sports teams, but was a fan of the teams his son-in-law played for. Erin is the fund administrator.

4. She’s a Graduate of Bentley University in Waltham, Massachusetts

According to her Facebook page, Erin was born in Medfield, Massachusetts. In 2007, she graduated from Bentley University in Waltham.

According to a Chicago Tribune profile, she worked in government after graduation, first working for the Massachusetts attorney general, then the state of New Jersey.

After Robertson was drafted, the couple started working with PanCAN. Thanks to his busy schedule though, the couple realized they couldn’t do charity work together all the time. Erin decided to leave her job to work for charitable causes full time.

“That lifestyle that was the opposite of real life. He was working at night, I was working during the day, and we never saw each other,” Robertson told the Tribune. “Finally I decided, ‘You know what, we are fortunate enough, I can do [charity work] full time,’ so I left my job so I could pursue the nonprofit part.”

5. Erin & Robertson Welcomed Their Second Child in July

Robertson is joining a new team less than a month after the birth of their second child. The Chicago Sun Times reported that their first daughter is named Violet Grace.

The pitcher was on the White Sox’s paternity list for a few days, missing a series against the Oakland A’s.

Robertson and Erin are also the proud parents of Like Joseph Robertson, who was born in August 2012.
