Tight End Outlook Week 7
- Zach Ertz‘s (TE9) disappointing 2020 campaign continues. While no official word from the team, ESPN’s Chris Mortenson has reported that Ertz is expected to miss three to four weeks with an ankle injury, almost guaranteeing his absence this Thursday night.
He may not be back to his former All-Pro form, but Rob Gronkowski (TE12) at least looks to have his feet back up under him. Gronk has now seen 14 targets over the past two weeks, ranking as the TE5 over that span.
The amount of weapons around Gronk is always concerning to his ceiling. However, his opponents this week, the Raiders, did allow a 24.8 point outing to their most recent tight end opposition, albeit that tight end was Travis Kelce.
Anthony Firkser (TE18) exploded in Week 6 to the tune of 100-plus receiving yards and a position-high 25.3 fantasy points. Problem is, Firkser’s production came with starter Jonnu Smith sidelined due to an ankle injury sustained in the third quarter, an ankle injury that has since been deemed “minor.”
If Smith can’t suit up this week, Firkser is worth a look, especially with Ertz’s injury and names such as Mark Andrews and Mike Gesicki on a bye. With that said, his matchup is less than appealing, as Pittsburgh has allowed just one receiving touchdown and no more than 57 yards to any opposing tight end this year.
