The Marlins designated Brujan for assignment Friday, Daniel Alvarez-Montes of ElExtraBase.com reports. Brujan played in a career-high 102 games last season, during which he slashed .222/.303/.319 with 16 RBI and five stolen bases. However, Miami signed Eric Wagaman to a one-year deal Friday, which will force Brujan to give up his spot on the 40-man roster. The 26-year-old's defensive versatility could draw interest from other teams on the waiver wire, though chances are he begins the season in Triple-A.
The Marlins signed Wagaman to a one-year contract Friday, Daniel Alvarez-Montes of ElExtraBase.com reports. Alvarez-Montes indicates that it's a major-league deal for Wagaman, who was non-tendered by the Angels last month. The 27-year-old got a cup of coffee with the Halos in 2024, slashing .250/.270/.403 with two homers in 18 games. He hit .274/.339/.469 with 17 home runs last year in the minors. Wagaman should have a pretty good chance to make the Opening Day roster on a talent-deficient Marlins club.
The Rangers traded Acosta to the Marlins on Tuesday alongside Echedry Vargas and Brayan Mendoza in exchange for Jake Burger, Alden Gonzalez of ESPN.com reports. In 104 games with Double-A Frisco last season, Acosta slashed .286/.351/.423 with 56 RBI and swiped 26 bags. He was selected to the Rangers' 40-man roster in November to protect him from the upcoming Rule 5 Draft, which means he will now have a spot on Miami's 40-man roster. While the 22-year-old is unlikely to crack the big-league squad out of spring training, a promotion to Triple-A Jacksonville could come in the near future.
The Mariners signed Marte (shoulder) to a minor-league contract Saturday that includes an invitation to spring training, Francys Romero of BeisbolFR.com reports. Marte spent the last two seasons with the Phillies' organization, and in 2024 he posted a 6.92 ERA and 1.88 WHIP over 26 innings in the majors. Marte was shut down from throwing in mid-September due to a right shoulder injury, but he should be fully healthy for spring training and will look to earn a spot in the Mariners' bullpen for the 2025 season.
The Marlins selected De Los Santos' contract from Triple-A Jacksonville on Tuesday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. De Los Santos finished the 2024 season with 40 home runs and 120 RBI between the Double-A and Triple-A levels. He got his strikeout rate down to 24.7 percent overall on the season, but it came in at 28.4 percent with Jacksonville after he landed there via trade. While there are swing-and-miss concerns, De Los Santos won't turn 22 until June and has immense raw power. He could get a shot with the Marlins at some point in 2025.
The Marlins outrighted Roa (shoulder) to Triple-A Jacksonville on Friday. Miami claimed Roa off waivers from Cincinnati on Nov. 1, but he's now been stripped of his 40-man roster spot after just 15 days with the organization. The 25-year-old righty spent all of last season in Triple-A, where he posted a 5.55 ERA and 1.76 WIHP across 48.2 innings before going down with a sprained shoulder, and he'll likely need to show some improvement at Jacksonville before getting a chance to make his MLB debut.
Simpson cleared waivers and was outrighted off the Marlins' 40-man roster Monday. A 27-year-old southpaw, Simpson had surgery in April to repair the ulnar nerve in his left elbow and was able to return late in the year with a rehab assignment before being assinged to Triple-A. Simpson logged a 7.62 ERA, 1.77 WHIP and a 19:7 K:BB in his final 13 innings last season and has never reached the big leagues.
The Marlins outrighted Hensley to Triple-A Jacksonville on Friday. He's no longer on the 40-man roster but will stick around in the organization. Hensley, who turns 29 in March, has slashed .188/.280/.279 in 69 games over parts of three big-league seasons.
