Conor McGregor Put on Blast About Donation: ‘Ghosted Us’

Getty Conor McGregor listens to a question during the UFC 246 Ultimate Media Day on January 16, 2020 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

UFC superstar Conor McGregor predicted a finish over Dustin Poirier in the upcoming third fight on July 10, but Poirier used the Irishman’s post about the matter to savagely rip into McGregor over failing to make his promised donation to Poirier’s charity organization. McGregor has since gone on to threaten to pull out of the upcoming fight, but what started all of that mess is below.

Poirier posted, “That’s a fun prediction! @TheNotoriousMMA you also predicted a donation to my foundation and you and your team stopped responding after the fight in January. See you soon. July 10th Paid In Full!”

Later, Poirier explained why his team had thanked McGregor for the donation that never actually came, and how McGregor’s team “ghosted” him right after that.

He posted, “We thanked him because his team reached out fight week to initiate the process but ghosted us the past 2 months after the fight. My foundation has reached out 3 times since with no reply. We’ve moved past it! We will be announcing our next goal soon! Its a big one”.

McGregor Admits Stiffing Poirier on Donation

Before UFC 257 in January, McGregor promised to make a $500,000 donation to Poirier’s charity organization, The Good Fight Foundation. The donation was set to help underprivileged youth in Poirier’s home state of Louisiana.

However, according to “The Diamond”, McGregor never actually made that donation. Worse than that, Poirier says that McGregor’s team stopped responding to his messages about the promised payment.

Maybe the worst part? McGregor’s first response to the issue was to retweet a fan’s comedic post that showed McGregor laughing hysterically. McGregor has since deleted the retweet, but not before people on social media took notice.

That’s not a very good look for McGregor or his team, and Poirier must feel strongly enough that McGregor isn’t going to make that donation that he’s willing to put the Irishman on blast over the matter.

McGregor later confirmed he didn’t make the donation and claimed it was due to not getting enough information back about what The Good Fight Foundation had planned for the money.

McGregor posted, “A donation, not a debt. We’ve been awaiting the plans for the money that never came. I do with all my donations. Know where it’s going dot for dot. Otherwise it goes walking. As is the case with a lot of these foundations, sadly. You took the McG over the belt shows I was right.”

Poirier responded, “100% never a debt. You offered, we accepted, and like I said your Team never responded to our emails regarding the process of where funds would be put to work! July 10th you will taste defeat yet Again”.

Poirier also received feedback from McGregor’s manager Audie Attar, who came to McGregor’s defense the following day by suggesting that Team McGregor’s apparent recent support for the UFC paying the American more for the rematch somehow equated to a valid reason McGregor never made the donation.

Attar posted, “Dustin! Why you frontin? Did you forget the face to face meeting we just had in Utah with our families? Where we stood by you as you tried to get more $ from the UFC? Conor is as generous as it gets. Don’t dismiss his business savvy. He always gets it done. This is a low move man”.

Poirier responded, “His team hasn’t responded to our emails about anything involving my foundation after they reached out to us originally. All good, Dinner and talk was great but don’t get on Twitter and be a tough guy lol.”

UFC 264: Poirier vs. McGregor 3

Poirier and McGregor are set to collide again at UFC 264 on July 10.

The two stars are knotted 1-1 against each other, and UFC 264 will serve as the rubbermatch.

McGregor previously posted that he expects to finish Poirier in the fourth round in the third fight. He posted, “The prediction is in! I’m going to win the trilogy fight via A Front Kick to the nose. Round number 4. His Nose needs straightenin and I’m Rhinoplasty.”

According to the most recent training footage of the superstar on his Instagram account, McGregor is putting in the work to turn his pre-fight prediction into a reality.

You can watch McGregor work on his kicks for the third fight below.

What’s missing, of course, is footage of McGregor opening his checkbook to make his donation to The Good Fight Foundation.

So Poirier used the “Notorious” star’s prediction to remind McGregor he’s still not made good on his promised pre-UFC 257 “prediction” of making a $500,000 donation.

Lots on Line in Third Fight

There will be a lot on the line in the third fight between Poirier and McGregor.

First, it’s the rubbermatch of a rivalry that began over six years ago.

McGregor defeated Poirier by first-round knockout in 2014 in a featherweight bout, but Poirier defeated McGregor by second-round knockout in a lightweight bout in the rematch at UFC 257 in January 2021.

But the two stars will also be fighting for a shot at UFC gold.

The winner of the fight will get the presumed first crack at the newly crowned UFC lightweight champion that’s being determined at UFC 262 when Charles Oliveira and Michael Chandler meet on May 14 in Houston.

Just those two things alone make UFC 264 wildly important for both fighters.

But now it seems there will also be some bad blood between the stars over that promised donation that McGregor never made to Poirier’s foundation.
