A wild conspiracy theory has erupted on social media about the boxing match between Floyd Mayweather and Logan Paul, which took place on June 6, 2021, via Showtime Boxing.
The fight was an eight-round exhibition and to the surprise of many, it went all eight frames. “Maverick” effectively tied up Mayweather for meaningful parts of the match, and coupled with Mayweather’s low output and Paul’s chin, “Maverick” left the ring relatively unscathed. No winner was declared.
Now for the conspiracy.
After the fight on Sunday night, a video clip started circulating around social media of Mayweather appearing to stun Paul seconds before the end of the sixth round. Mayweather landed a right, then a left. After the left, Paul appears to drop his body into “Money.” Some believe that Mayweather actually knocked Paul out and then proceeded to hold the YouTuber up so he wouldn’t go crashing to the ground. According to the theory, Mayweather kept Paul up so that the fight could continue, allowing fans to continue to watch the event.

There was no mention of this moment from either competitor or major outlet after the fight and because Paul was seemingly okay heading back to his corner seconds later, it’s unlikely that this conspiracy is true. What’s more plausible is that Maverick was briefly stunned, or caught off-balance, by Mayweather’s punch and the two got tangled up, something that happened several times during their match.

Mayweather Admitted That Paul Was ‘Better’ Than He Expected
Maverick showed off his athleticism and chin by lasting eight rounds with Mayweather, one of the greatest boxers ever. And according to Money, he was surprised by the challenge.
“I had fun,” Mayweather said via Sportsnet. “You have to realize I’m not 21 anymore. It’s good to move around these young guys and have some fun. Great young fighter, strong, tough. He’s better than I thought he was.”
“Even though he doesn’t have much experience, he knew how to use his weight and he knew how to tie me up tonight.”
Mayweather also admitted that if Paul were to box someone his own size, “it’s going to be hard.”
Paul Proved ‘Odds Could Be Beat’ By Stepping Into Ring With Mayweather
Paul only had two boxing matches under his belt before his exhibition with Mayweather: one draw and one loss to fellow YouTuber KSI. His last bout was in November 2019 when he lost to KSI by split decision.
But an elated Paul doesn’t want anyone to doubt his capabilities again. “I don’t want anyone to tell me anything is impossible ever again,” Paul said after the bout. “To get in here with one of the greatest boxers of all time, proves that the odds could be beat.”
