Angel Reese Dominated During Her WNBA Home Debut

Angel Reese could do no wrong in her WNBA home debut.

Her Chicago Sky squad defeated the New York Liberty by a score of 101-53 on May 7.

And Reese spent much of the preseason blowout looking like the best player on the court.

Reese finished the game with 13 points on 6 of 10 shooting in 19 minutes played. She has also added 5 rebounds, 1 steal, and a whole lot of positive energy.

After Reese scored a tough third quarter bucket on reigning WNBA MVP Breanna Stewart, she stared Stewart down before running back down the court.

Back in the first quarter, the “Chi Barbie” added another impressive score against 2021 WNBA MVP, Jonquel Jones

The WNBA’s X account posted a sneaky third quarter steal from the former LSU standout, which led to a three pointer for her teammate, Marina Mabrey

Getting fouled didn’t stop Reese from making another high-difficulty basket in the second quarter.

A fired up Reese then drained the “And-1” free throw after her make.

The Sky are feeding off of the 2024 WNBA Draftee’s energy. If they can continue this current form in the regular season, the rest of the WNBA will need to watch out.

The Sky’s Success Was Without Kamilla Cardoso

Chicago’s dominant victory over the Liberty was made even more impressive, since they did so without the help of Kamilla Cardoso

On May 6, the Sky announced that Cardoso would be missing four to six weeks with a shoulder injury that she suffered in Chicago’s May 3 preseason game.

Cardoso fell to the floor after receiving hard contact during the contest. She remained on the floor for a moment before standing up and shaking out her right shoulder.

On her way back to the bench, Cardoso was approached by Reese, who seemed to be asking her whether she was all right. The two then high-fived, and Cardoso went to the bench.

Losing the No. 3 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft is a brutal blow for Chicago. Yet, Reese proved on May 7 that she’s more than capable of commandeering the Sky’s frontcourt in Cardoso’s absence.

A Big Birthday For The “Chi Barbie”

Reese had one of the more eventful 22nd birthdays in recent memory.

She turned 22 years old on May 6. In the morning, Reese spent her birthday at practice, alongside her teammates.

A Chicago Sky X account video shows Reese dancing by herself while her teammates are singing “Happy Birthday!”

After that, teammate Diamond DeShields hands her a plastic basket filled with an assortment of different snacks. Reese then hoists the basket in the air three times.

To finish the festivities off, Reese ran through the two lines of teammates while still holding the basket above her head. As she ran, her teammates took turns slapping her on the backside.

Sky head coach Teresa Weatherspoon gave Reese permission to leave practice early, in order to attend the 2024 Met Gala

Even though it technically isn’t her birthday anymore, Reese kept the party going with a sensational performance against the New York Liberty.

And with Caleb Williams having attended the May 7 game, perhaps Reese has more celebrating to do after the victory.
