Sean Spicer’s Venmo Trolled: The Tweets You Need to Read

It appears that White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer has a public account on the money transfer app Venmo, and people are taking full advantage of this fact to troll him.

The folks behind the “Who? Weekly” celebrity gossip podcast were first to spot and publicize the account:

As you can see from the tweet above, people have been sending Spicer money for things like gum, Dippin’ Dots, and hair plugs. One person even sent Spicer their “two cents” via the app.

“It might be bogus but this appears to be Sean Spicer’s public Venmo page. I gave him my two cents,” user Myles Nye wrote on Twitter, adding a screenshot of the $0.02 payment, sent with a note bashing Spicer’s boss, President Donald Trump:

Since word spread out about this last night, social media users have flocked to Venmo, trolling Spicer’s account by requesting money for all sorts of things.

There’s a chance that someone set up this account as a joke, and it doesn’t actually belong to Spicer, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. As NYMag reported, Spicer’s transaction history before the trolling began showed just two payments: one to a Ryan Spicer and another to a Shannon Spicer. He does indeed have a brother named Ryan and a sister named Shannon. Meanwhile, one Twitter user discovered that his friends list includes a prominent K Street lobbyist. And, BuzzFeed News said it confirmed the account is the real deal by matching his phone number.
