A shooting occurred this afternoon in Chicago, close to the University of Illinois campus. An FBI agent shot a man after he happened upon a group of people attempting to steal a car in a supermarket parking lotreports the Chicago Tribune.

1. One Person Was Wounded

One man was shot in the hip in the parking lot of a Jewel-Osco supermarket and is now in critical condition, he was hit by the FBI agent.

2. The FBI Agent Just Happened to be in the Neighborhood

The other thieves succeeded in stealing a car and attempted to run over the agent, he shot at the car, riddling it with bullets.

3. The Thieves Crashed the Car About Five Blocks Away

After making an initial getaway the bad guys crashed their car into an elderly couple at the entrance to the RUSH medical campus. The couple were seriously injured. Chicago Firefighters had to cut the pair from their car. The thieves made their getaway on foot at this point.

4. Both the FBI and Chicago Police are Hunting Suspects

Law enforcement have released this image of one of the car thieves.

Law enforcement are seeking a black male, age 40-50, he is wearing a black shirt and black hat. The above picture was taken from University of Illinois surveillance footage. He’s believed to have a female accomplice.

5. The University was Thoroughly Searched and the Culprits Were not Found

Today is the first day of the college’s spring break. It was on lock down during a search and there was no trace of the suspects.
