Alyssia Reddy, who worked as an English teacher in New Jersey and a history teacher in Maryland, is accused of having sex with a 16-year-old student, an inappropriate relationship that allegedly played out, in part, over Snapchat.
Social media has figured into the accusations against many female teachers over the past few years. Reddy is but the latest in a string of teachers to be accused of inappropriate behavior with a high school student. In this instance, the teacher, who is 28-years-old, was arrested on Friday, December 1. The student in question is from South Jersey.

1. Reddy, Who Taught English at a Boarding School, Is Accused of Telling the Student She Wanted His Hands on Her
According to NBC Philadelphia, Alyssia Marie Reddy had “taught English at the Pennington School, a day and boarding school in Pennington, New Jersey.”
Although she was arrested in 2017, the allegations date a year back, the television station reported, citing police reports. “In December 2016, Reddy gave the student her cell phone number and then added him on Snapchat, according to the police records. The student said in February 2017 he received messages from Reddy saying, ‘I want your hands on me,'” NBC Philadelphia reported.
2. Reddy Is Accused of Having Sex With the Youth in a Park
The allegations don’t stop with social media. Authorities are accusing Reddy of having sex with the 16-year-old boy in a local park. According to NJ.com, authorities accused Reddy of “institutional sexual assault, unlawful contact with a minor and related charges and issued warrants for her arrest.”
“Solebury, Pa. police said they received a report on Nov. 20 of an alleged sexual assault that occurred at a park along Route 32 (River Road) in the spring of 2017,” reported NJ.com. “Their investigation identified Reddy, who was then a Pennington Prep teacher, as the suspect. Police said she had intercourse with the 16-year-old student.”
The press release from Solesbury County police says, “November 20, 2017 the Solebury Township Police Department received a report of an alleged sexual assault that occurred at a park along Route 32 (River Road) Solebury Township, in the spring of 2017. Through the course of this investigation it was determined that a 28 year old teacher who was employed at the Pennington School, Pennington, New Jersey is alleged to engage in sexual intercourse with a 16 year old student from the school.”
3. The Teacher Had Moved to Baltimore, Where She Was Working in a New School
By the time of the arrest, Reddy had moved on to a new school in Baltimore, Maryland. The teacher “most recently taught at the St. Paul’s School for Girls in Brooklandville” Maryland, according to CBS Baltimore. The Trentonian reports that she indicated she had worked there as a “SPIRITUS Scholars Coordinator and History Teacher.”
After being arrested in Pennsylvania, Reddy was fired from her position at the Maryland school, CBS Baltimore reported. “A letter addressed to the St. Paul’s school community, written and signed by Head of School Penny Evins on Friday, says Reddy has been fired,” the CBS station reported, quoting the letter as saying in part, “Before today, we had no information suggesting any prior improper conduct by Mrs. Reddy. Prior to hiring Mrs. Reddy, we performed a thorough background check, as we do with all new employees.”
The police press release continues, “Reddy who now resides in the Baltimore, MD area and who is currently employed at another school in Maryland was arrested on December 1, 2017. Solebury Township Police with assistance from Baltimore County, Maryland Police Fugitive Task Force arrested Aylssia Marie Reddy on a felony warrant for institutional sexual assault, unlawful contact with a minor, criminal use of a communication facility and corruption of a minor.”
4. The Teacher Will be Extradited to Pennsylvania & Is Married to Another Teacher
Online records show that Alyssia Reddy has ties to multiple states on the east coast, including Maryland, Delaware, and New Jersey. However, authorities allege that the assault occurred in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. “Her husband, Michael Reddy, is also a teacher who worked at the Lawrenceville School in Mercer County, according to a school magazine article from earlier this year,” reported NJ1015.
According to the Trentonian, Alyssia Reddy “apparently crossed the Delaware River to have sex with one of her students at the Pennington School.”
“Reddy is currently being detained in Baltimore City, Maryland awaiting extradition to Pennsylvania,” the police press release said. “Solebury Township Police Department was assisted by the Mercer County (NJ) Prosecutor’s Office (Special Victim’s Unit), Bucks County District Attorney’s Office (Detectives), Baltimore County Maryland Police Department (Fugitive Task Force and Crimes Against Children Unit).”
5. Multiple Female Teachers in the United States Have Been Accused of Sex-Related Allegations
Reddy is but the latest female teacher accused of having sex or an inappropriate relationship with a high school student. Hunter Day, an Oklahoma teacher, was accused of sending nude photos to a student. Among other recent cases: Loryn Barclay, a former substitute teacher at a Missouri High School, was accused of having sexual contact multiple times with a 17-year-old boy. Shawnetta Reece, a gym teacher from Georgia, was accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a 15-year-old boy.
Tracy Miller, a West Virginia teacher, was accused of sending nude photos to students. Nataly Lopez, a 27-year-old former substitute teacher at a middle school in New Jersey, was accused of having sexual contact with a student. Lindsey Jarvis, a 27-year-old middle school teacher’s aide, was accused of the rape and sodomy of a student who was under the age of 16. Jarvis was arrested in Fayette County, Kentucky, on June 16. Then there’s Laura Ramos. She is a 31-year-old Connecticut high school teacher who is accused of having sex with a special education student. And there’s Tiffany Geliga.
