WATCH: El Cajon Police Shooting Protests

Watch a video replay of protests in El Cajon, California, against the police shooting of Alfred Olango, on Wednesday.

Be warned, the stream was live and may contain offensive language.

Here is another video of protests from the streets of El Cajon.

The protests stem from the Tuesday slaying by police of Alfred Olango, 30, who was African-American. Olango was reported to be “acting erratically” in the parking lot of a strip mall in the San Diego suburb of El Cajon, and suffered from mental illness according to his sister.

But Olango was unarmed when he was shot.

A photo of the incident released by police appeared to show Olango in what was described as “a shooting stance” with toward the officers on the scene. But he was not holding a weapon.

The protests have focused not merely on the killing of Olango, but on a pattern of police killing black citizens at a rate disproportionate to other racial groups, as shown in the following chart compiled by Vox.com from FBI data circa 2012.

Protests also took place on September 27, and coverage of those protests can be viewed in the following video.
