Trump aide Stephen Miller repeats Trump’s blatantly false claim about mass illegal voting. There is zero evidence.
Donald Trump’s senior White House advisor Stephen Miller insisted to ABC’s George Stephanopoulos that the president was the victim of “massive voter fraud” during the 2016 presidential election.
That’s led to derision on Twitter, with some calling Miller a liar.
You can watch the video of the exchange above. At one point, Miller says, “George, it is a fact, and you will not deny it, that there are massive numbers of non-citizens in this country who are registered to vote. That is a scandal. We should stop the presses…”
Miller was the senior policy adviser for the Donald Trump campaign and has now been named senior adviser to the President. Miller also co-wrote Trump’s inauguration address with Steve Bannon and has continued to be a key player in the Trump administration. On January 29, Miller was one of the Trump advisers dispatched to defend the immigration ban policy. A White House official told CNN that Miller spent months putting the immigration order together, secretly working closely with Steve Bannon. The exchange started when George Stephanopoulos, the ABC host who was once President Bill Clinton’s press secretary, pressed Miller on Trump “suggesting in a meeting with senators that thousands of illegal voters were bused from Massachusetts to New Hampshire, and that’s what caused his defeat in the State of New Hampshire” as well as the defeat of Republican Senator Kelly Ayotte.
That led Ellen Weintraub, a member of the Federal Election Commission, to call on Trump to share the evidence so it could be investigated. “Do you have the evidence?” Stephanopoulos asked Miller.
Miller: “I actually having worked before on a campaign in New Hampshire, I can tell you that this issue of busing voters into New Hampshire is widely known by anyone who’s worked in New Hampshire politics, it’s very real, it’s very serious. This morning on this show is not the venue for me to lay out all the evidence. But I can tell you this. Voter fraud is a serious problem in this country. You have millions of people who are registered in two states, who are dead who are registered to vote, and you have 14% of non citizens according to academic research at a minimum are registered to vote, which is an astonishing statistic.”
Stephanopoulos : “…Hold on a second, you just claimed again that there was illegal voting in New Hampshire, people bused in from the State of Massachusetts. Do you have any evidence to back that up?”

Miller: “…George, go to New Hampshire. Talk to anyone who’s worked in politics there for a long time. Everybody’s aware of the problem in New Hampshire, with respect to-”
Stephanopoulos: “I am asking you as the White House senior policy adviser. The president made a statement saying he was a victim of voter fraud-”
Miller: “And the president was.”
Stephanopoulos: “Do you have any evidence?”
Miller: “If this is an issue that interests you, then we can talk about it more in the future, and we now have…the Department of Justice and we have more officials. The issue of voter fraud is something we are going to be looking at very seriously and very hard. but the reality is, we know for a fact that there are massive numbers of non citizens registered to vote in this country. Nobody disputes that.”
He then named the Kansas Secretary of State, Kris Kobach, saying he had looked deeply into the issue, had put together evidence, and “confirmed it to be true.” However, The Denver Post wrote of Kobach that he “tried to back up his claim by citing a survey of the 2008 presidential election. The analysis he cited Wednesday has been widely criticized and debunked by both political scientists and the Harvard-run group that collected the data used in the analysis.”
Stephanopoulos said to Miller: “Just for the record, you have provided absolutely no evidence -”
Miller: “The White House has provided enormous evidence with respect to voter fraud. With respect to people being registered in more than one state, dead people voting, non-citizens being registered to vote. George, it is a fact, and you will not deny it, that there are massive numbers of non-citizens in this country who are registered to vote. That is a scandal. We should stop the presses, and as a country, we should be aghast about the fact that you have people who have no right to vote in this country registered to vote, cancelling out the franchise of lawful citizens of this country. That’s the story we should be talking about. And I’m prepared to go on any show, anywhere, at any time and repeat it and say the president of the United States is correct 100%.”
Stephanopoulos: “…For the record, you have provided zero evidence that the president was the victim of massive voter fraud in New Hampshire. You’ve provided zero evidence that the president’s claim that he would have won the popular vote if 3-5 million illegal immigrants hadn’t voted. Zero evidence for either of those claims. Thanks a lot for joining us this morning.”
Miller then went into a list of things he said the president would do, ranging from “We are going to protect our country from voter fraud”… “protect innocent men, women, and children from violent criminal illegal immigrants.”
Although people – including some news reporters and anchors – were deriding Miller as a liar on Twitter, his boss – President Donald Trump – liked his performance.
