World’s Smallest Girl Heads to School

Charlotte Garside may not look like much at only 27 inches tall and weighing in at only 9 pounds, but RadarOnline reports that this five year old girl is tough as nails and is heading off to school for the first time .

Diagnosed with a form of primordial dwarfism that falls under the category of “so rare doctors don’t even have a name for it”, little Charlotte Garside has defied all expectations by surviving past the age of one to come to today where she will now be heading off to school for the first time.

Although her mother Emma is a bit worried about the other bigger kids in school bullying her or making fun of her for her petite size (she’s even smaller than her favorite teddy bear) her family as a whole is fairly confident that she’ll do just fine in the world as Charlotte has never let her size limit her abilities (or her sense of adventure!)

When she was pregnant with Charlotte her mother said it was a very normal pregnancy, but after her birth it was immediately apparent something was different about her – at just two pounds she needed to be dressed in doll clothes initially and could be carried around in the front pocket of a sweater like a kangaroo. Five years later she’s grown up to a whopping 9 pounds (roughly the size of a newborn shortly after birth) and is excited about getting off to school just like all the other kids her age.

Other complications that have come about from Charlotte’s dwarfism have included delayed mental development, cysts on her liver and a weakened immune system, however her parents don’t want to shelter her in life and are giving her the chance to go about just like any other girl her age. Way to go, Charlotte!
