Fat Lady Clarissa Says ‘Eat the Badgers!’ Queen Guitarist Says ‘Eat the Fat Lady!’

For those of you who haven’t been keeping up with rural U.K. news, a major culling of the badger population is set to take place to help reduce the population of the critters by roughly 70 percent in some areas to keep them from encroaching upon farm land and causing millions of dollars of damage to livestock. Fat Lady Clarissa from BBC’s “Two Fat Ladies” has proposed a solution as to what to do with the soon-to-be-hunted critters: EAT ‘EM!

The Daily Mail reports that Clarissa Dickson Wright, famous for her role as Fat Lady Clarissa, has never shied away from food, and she thinks it would be a waste to let all of the poor, delicious creatures simply be thrown into a landfill when they could just as easily fill our stomachs.

Apparently, according to miss Dickson Wright, badger was once a staple food in England centuries ago when rabbit was costly and scarce. She even recalls growing up munching on “badger hams” at local pubs, saying that it tasted like a lean young wild boar.

Needless to say her views have garnered a lot of mixed reviews from a number of people, including Queen guitarist Brian May who responded to her comment by saying, “I think we should seriously consider eating senseless people like this Clarissa, whoever-she-is. She’s obviously outlived her usefulness. I wonder if she would be best boiled or braised.” Others have taken a more comical approach to the whole situation, such as in the case of the video shown above.

Whether or not you’re up to trying a freshly roasted badger is up to you, but the culling is set to take place regardless this fall throughout some regions in the U.K. in the hopes to helping give farmers a break from the critters that have been under government protection since the 1992 “Protection of Badgers Act” designed to help protect the badger’s dwindling population at that time.
