UFC star Dustin Poirier is coming off his second straight knockout victory over Conor McGregor, and now it looks like another UFC superstar is hoping to share the Octagon with “The Diamond”. Nate Diaz issued his challenge to Poirier via Twitter on Thursday, and it came with an interesting idea about the proposed megafight’s weight class. Poirier responded to the 185-pound callout.

Diaz posted, “185lbs” and “Pull-up.”

Poirier responded, “I’d touch you up at any weight.”

Both Stars Enjoyed Big Moments in Last Fights

Poirier defeated McGregor by first-round stoppage in a lightweight bout at UFC 264. His previous fight came six months earlier against the same foe in the same 155-pound lightweight division. Poirier beat McGregor that time by second-round knockout.

Meanwhile, Diaz is coming off a loss via decision in the 170-pound welterweight division to Leon Edwards at UFC 263. While Diaz lost nearly every minute of the first four rounds of that fight, he stormed back in the last round to almost secure the stoppage victory.

Edwards survived and won the fight, but Diaz and his many fans had something to celebrate afterward.

Now, Diaz seems to believe he’s poised for another big fight.

According to his social media post, Diaz wants to face Poirier next in the 185-pound middleweight division.

Neither fighter has competed in that weight class in the UFC before, but Poirier believes he would beat Diaz no matter what.

Now the UFC world waits to see if the two stars actually agree to the fight.

Why Poirier Might Choose Diaz Over Other Options

Poirier vs. Diaz wouldn’t be for UFC gold, but Diaz is similar to McGregor in that he would probably offer Poirier a bigger payday than he would get for fighting UFC lightweight champion Charles Oliveira.

Heck, outside of McGregor, Diaz probably nets Poirier the most amount of cash he can get for Octagon work.

In fact, the idea that Poirier might consider Diaz next was argued by Heavy immediately in the aftermath of Poirier’s stunning win over McGregor at UFC 264.

“The Diamond” had basically been guaranteed by UFC president Dana White to have the next crack at Oliveira’s 155-pound crown, but after defeating McGregor by TKO, he punched his ticket to wherever he wants to go next in the UFC.

It means Poirier has another huge choice to make in regards to his future with the company.

Will Poirier take the immediate title shot against Oliveria next? Or would he rather go after the fight that would earn him the most money possible?

With McGregor on the shelf for a long recovery break due to the injury he suffered at UFC 264 to his lower leg, Diaz makes the most dollars for Poirier’s next UFC fight.

That means he might also make the most sense.

Diaz wants the showdown, and Poirier seems to be considering it.
