How To Play The Monster Hunter XX Switch Demo Outside of Japan

If you’ve been a fan of gaming handhelds since the PSP, you’ve probably at least heard of Monster Hunter. The game puts you in control of a player as you try to gear up and take down giant monsters. It’s an experience that can be done both solo and with a few friends.

Monster Hunter Double Cross, styled as XX, is the actually an enhanced port of Monster Hunter Generations from the Nintendo 3DS. It was announced as an upcoming Nintendo Switch title back in May. This marks the first time a Monster Hunter title will be available on the Switch.

Unfortunately, the game was announced for Japan only and we have yet to receive any word of localization. All hope isn’t lost though as the Nintendo Switch is not region-locked. This means that you can buy games from Japan and play them on your Nintendo Switch that you bought in North America, and vice-versa.

Capcom has announced a demo for Monster Hunter XX is coming August 10 and will be available on the Japanese eShop. All you have to do if you want to play it is create a new Nintendo account and set Japan as your home region. All that’s left to do from that point is to download the demo and enjoy. The game is set to officially release August 25 in Japan.

Keep in mind that the title may or may not have English subtitles so you may find yourself struggling to get through menus and other things introduced in the game. Previous Monster Hunter titles have had text-heavy tutorials so you might end up being completely lost on what to do. Monster Hunter veterans might have no problem skipping everything and still knowing what to do but this might be hard on newcomers.

For those of you who don’t want to learn another language to play Monster Hunter on current-generations consoles, you can just wait for the release of Monster Hunter: World next year. The new title streamlines things for a broader audience and is considered to be the next main installment in the series. Monster Hunter: World will be available for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.

After the success of Street Fighter II for the Switch, Capcom announced more support for the console moving forward. Yesterday, Capcom announced that Resident Evil Revelations 1 and 2 were both coming the console later this year. Maybe it isn’t too late for Monster Hunter: World to come to the Switch.
