Sony’s next-gen rollout is now entering its final phases.
During The Future of Gaming livestream event, we got our first inside look at the PlayStation 5 and the impressive titles that are slated to launch on Sony’s upcoming console hardware. And on September 16, 2020, avid gamers everywhere got an even more thorough explanation of what the PS5’s launch plans and day one game releases will look like. There were a lot of exciting announcements made during this showcase and we’ve collected all of the gameplay trailers that caused mass hysteria all up and down gamers’ timelines.
So without further ado, check out all the trailers we complied below from Sony’s latest PS5 Showcase livestream briefing.
Final Fantasy XVI
Publisher Square Enix and development studio Creative Business Unit III announced the next mainline entry within the legendary Final Fantasy series. Final Fantasy XVI adopts a more medieval fantasy theme that revisits the familiar story element of magical crystals. This upcoming action RPG will come to PS5 as a console exclusive and also arrive on PC.
Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales
Miles Morales’ newfound role as Spider-Man takes center stage in his hometown of East Harlem, New York. The latest gameplay demonstration for Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales delved into the backstory behind Miles’ city spanning adventure – war has broken out between a devious energy corporation called Roxxon and a criminal army named the Underground (who’s being led by The Tinkerer). And that inner-city squabble just so happens to be taking place during an election rally for Miles’ mother, Rio Morales. A battle between the two sides erupts on the bridge and sees Miles tap into his bio-electric mastery and invisibility powers in a bid to put down his tech-savvy foes. The gameplay that was showcased during this new trailer looked incredible, no doubt.
Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales will not only be arriving on PS5, but it will also launch on PS4 as both a physical and digital release. A next-gen upgrade path is also being implemented, so PS4 owners can rest easy knowing that their copy will be upgraded for free once they play the game on PS5. The Ultimate Edition of the game that’s coming exclusively to PS5 will come with a download code for Marvel’s Spider-Man: Remastered. That next-gen remaster will come with the original game intact and all three pieces of the Marvel’s Spider-Man: The City That Never Sleeps DLC expansion.
Hogwarts Legacy
The leaked Harry Potter RPG gamers heard about years prior has finally been unveiled and its official name is Hogwarts Legacy. This open-world- action RPG takes place within Hogwarts during the 1800s. As an incoming student to the wizarding academy, you stand out due to your unusual ability to wield Ancient Magic. Your custom young wizard will play a crucial role in the wizarding world as you discover fantastic beats, master powerful spells, craft potions, and perform all the other duties that help them morph into a powerful magic-user. Hogwarts Legacy is slated to launch sometime in 2021.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War
A campaign mission for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War entitled “Nowhere Left to Run” was showcased and it featured the usual high-octane cinematic gameplay the series is known for. We even got a cool slow-motion shot of a sniper rifle bullet going through an enemy soldier’s head in a manner similar to Sniper Elite. This new gameplay trailer featured your usual Call of Duty branded explosions, firefights, and on-road action, but with a next-gen PS5 graphical sheen. By the way, PS4 owners can hop into an exclusive Alpha multiplayer session from September 18 (10 a.m. PST) to September 20 (10 a.m. PST).
Resident Evil Village
Capcom’s next first-person themed Resident Evil game got a new gameplay trailer and it was quite terrifying. Resident Evil Village places players back in the role of Ethan Winters, who’s forced to deal with a host of new enemies within a mysterious village. Ethan finds himself trapped in this new frozen hellscape after having his wife Mia Winters taken away from him due to Chris Redfield’s puzzling actions. Resident Evil Village is coming to PS5 in 2021.
DEATHLOOP
Bethesda Softworks and Arkane Lyon’s trippy time-altering first-person shooter got some worthy screentime during a new gameplay trailer entitled “Two Birds One Stone.” DEATHLOOP’s insane gunplay and otherwordly powers came into play as main character Colt attempted to assassinate two key targets. Players not only have to keep their enemies’ movements in mind while they carry out their mission, however. They’ll also have to deal with a rival assassin named Julianna, who can be played by another player as they sneak into someone’s play session and looks to keep Colt in a permanent time loop via death. DEATHLOOP is coming to PS5 and PC in 2021.
Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition
The Special Edition of Devil May Cry 5 is coming to PS5 digitally on day one. And it’s arriving with a playable version of Vergil, Turbo Mode, Legendary Dark Knight difficulty, and special Ray Tracing graphical enhancements. Vergil will be offered to current-gen console owners as paid DLC at a later date, while the physical version of Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition will arrive on PS5 in the near future.
Oddworld: Soulstorm
Longtime series villain Molluck the Glukkon made his grand return in this new gameplay trailer for the upcoming Oddworld: Soulstorm, which will be a console exclusive for PS5/PS4. It’s also arriving on PC.
Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach
The animatronic-filled, survival horror franchise known as Five Nights at Freddy’s is coming to PS5/PS4 as a console exclusive and to PC with a new game entitled Security Breach.
Demon’s Souls
Bluepoint Games’ next-gen reimagining of Demon’s Souls is coming to PS5 at launch and it looks like a proper killer-app. Players will explore a far more gorgeous rendition of Bolateria and clash with all sorts of dangerous beasts to conquer (and die countless times to).
Fortnite
Fortnite is among the list of games coming to next-gen consoles at launch, including PS5. This latest gameplay trailer gave everyone a sneak peek at what the game will look like when it eventually receives an Unreal Engine 4 engine update.
PlayStation Plus Collection

The games included within the newly announced PlayStation Plus Collection are God of War (2018), Bloodborne, Monster Hunter: World, Final Fantasy XV, Fallout 4, Mortal Kombat X, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, Ratchet & Clank (2016), Days Gone, Until Dawn, Detroit: Become Human, Battlefield 1, inFamous: Second Son, Batman: Arkham Knight, The Last Guardian, The Last of Us Remastered, Persona 5, and Resident Evil 7: Biohazard.
