Body Found in Hotel Water Tank Believed to Be Missing Canadian Woman

Elisa Lam

The body of an unidentified woman in her 20s was found at the bottom of a Los Angeles hotel water tank and is believed to be that of Elisa Lam, a 21-year-old tourist from Vancouver, Canada who went missing on January 31.

After a room on the fourth floor flooded and others experienced weak water pressure at the Cecil Hotel in downtown Los Angeles, a maintenance worker went to check one of the large metal water cisterns on the roof on Tuesday and discovered the woman’s body, the Los Angeles Times reports. LAPD homicide detectives had been investigating the disappearance of Lam and even searched the roof with aid dogs when the Canadian tourist was reported missing and was last seen at the hotel, but didn’t find anything. An elevator security video showed Lam acting suspiciously before she disappeared, hiding in a corner and repeatedly peering around the elevator doors and into the hallway.

The body has not yet been identified.

Officials said that the tanks supply water to the hotel’s guest rooms, but city health inspectors found no biohazards in the water.
