Police in New Carlisle, Indiana responded to a call at a home at the 700 block of Thunderbird Drive at around 7:00 a.m. local time, there they found a couple who lived at the home dead of gunshot wounds, reports ABC 57.

1. The Children Called 911

A couple lived at the home with the woman’s two children, the man was believed to be their step-father. Police now believe the children were the ones who dialed 911. WSBT reports that two children were seen being taken away from the scene in tears.
2. The Bodies Were Found in the Bathroom
One person was dead of self-inflicted gunshot wounds, the other had been shot by someone else. Police are treating it as a murder/suicide. Their bodies were found in the bathroom.

Neighbors have described the neighborhood as quiet. They told Fox28 had never noticed anything strange about the family nor had their been incidents at the home previously.

The names of the victims have not been named yet. NBC 16 has reported that the children’s ages are “estimated” at 9 and 14. Fox28 reports that the children are now in the care of their biological father.
5. There Was a Murder/Suicide in New Carlisle in 2010
In 2010, Nick Simeri, a renowned bar owner in nearby South Bend, Indiana, shot himself after shooting his ex-wife, Lisa Martin-Simeri dead at their former home in New Carlisle. At the scene, police found Lisa-Martin Simeri shot and killed on the front lawn, cops operated under the theory that she was running for help when she was gunned down. Nick Simeri then went back inside the home and took his own life. He was found alive at the scene but pronounced dead shortly after emergency responders arrived.
The town of New Carlisle has under 2,000 inhabitants and lies about 80 miles east of Chicago, close to Lake Michigan.
