An 18-foot-long oarfish carcass was discovered off the coast of California’s Catalina Island by Jasmine Santana, a local snorkeling instructor.
It took 15 people to get the leviathan’s body out of the water, which is still pretty small by oarfish standards. The illusive creatures are known to grow nearly 60-feet-long. Still, the island intends to put the rare fish on display for future visitors to enjoy.
