A suspect was fatally shot Sunday night at the end of a chase involving a stolen West Covina police cruiser, which was being pursued at a high rate of speed, NBC reports. You can watch a replay of the chase above or by clicking here.
Police had the vehicle surrounded and officers could be seen placing a white sheet over the car.
The stolen cruiser, with its lights and sirens on, reached speeds of up to 100 mph at points during the chase, the news station reports, weaving in and out of lanes through traffic.
The chase was heading northbound on the 170 freeway at about 10:20 p.m. After driving through Los Angeles, the suspect eventually went down an alleyway in Glendale, where police performed a “pit maneuver,” trapping the stolen cruiser.
NBC Los Angeles reported that shots were fired at the end of the chase.
Medics were called to the scene, but the suspect was later pronounced dead. The chase ended at about 10:40 p.m.
It was being pursued by the West Covina Police.
Three police helicopters were following the stolen vehicle. The chase began at about 9:45 p.m. local time. It is not yet known how the car was stolen.
