Five people are dead and seven more injured after a shooting at a Black Lives Matter rally in Dallas.
This shooting came after the deaths of two black men, Philando Castile and Alton Sterling, at the hands of police officers, an issue which had already sparked a fierce debate among U.S. politicians and presidential candidates.
Following the Dallas shootings, everyone from Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton to Ted Cruz and Harry Reid expressed their grief at the loss of life in Texas, with those in both parties releasing similarly worded statements. Trump even made reference to the deaths of Castile and Sterling, who he had not previously discussed.
In the aftermath of the shooting, both presidential candidates cancelled campaign events they had scheduled for Friday.
Here are some of the reactions and statements from U.S. politicians you need to see.
Prayers and condolences to all of the families who are so thoroughly devastated by the horrors we are all watching take place in our country
I mourn for the officers shot while doing their sacred duty to protect peaceful protesters, for their families & all who serve with them. -H
The attack on police officers in Dallas last night is horrifying and despicable. We must as a nation stand against violence of all kinds.
There is no cause or context in which this violence—this kind of terror—is justified. None at all. #Dallas
Heidi & my prayers are w/ the families of the 5 brave officers who lost their lives & the entire Dallas community:
The nation stands with the people of Dallas and their brave police force. There is no possible justification for such a senseless, evil act.
Troubled by the violence across our country this week. Praying for the families of the terrible killings in Dallas, Baton Rouge, and MN
My statement on the tragic shootings in the City of Dallas:
We mourn the innocent lives lost, pray for the injured, and thank the brave law enforcement officers who risk their lives to keep us safe.
I DON’T ACCEPT police gunned down by snipers, kids murdered in school, or black men shot during routine stops. I believe we can stop it all.
Seeing what’s happening in Dallas – prayers with injured officers and their families. Keeping close eye as unfolds.

May we stop seeing people as black, white, brown or wearing blue & see them instead as husbands, wives, sons, daughters & children of God.
Our hearts are heavy for the police officers lost in last night’s violence in Dallas, for their families and their fellow officers.
