After the speech, Obama is scheduled to meet President Muhammadu Buhari of Nigeria and have lunch with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki Moon. Obama is also scheduled to attend a roundtable of CEOs and a summit on the refugee crisis sparked by the Syrian Civil War. Tonight, he will give a speech at a reception for foreign heads of UN delegations at Lotte New York Palace.
Obama’s speech comes just days after this past weekend’s attacks in Manhattan, where a blast injured 29 people. Ahmad Khan Rahami, a naturalized citizen from Afghanistan who lived in New Jersey, was arrested and charged with attempted murder in the attack.
