Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump will hold a rally in Orlando, Florida this afternoon, his second of three events in the state today.
Trump will speak from the Central Florida Fairgrounds beginning at 4:00 p.m. Eastern Time. His event can be viewed live in the embedded YouTube player via Right Side Broadcasting.
Prior to Trump’s rally in Orlando, the Republican candidate spoke to voters in Miami, and later this evening, he heads over to Pensacola. Both Trump and Clinton have been focused heavily on Florida in recent weeks, as this is by far the most important battleground state this year. If Hillary Clinton loses Florida, she has a few other pathways to victory. But if Donald Trump loses Florida, it is virtually impossible for him to win the election.
At the moment, Donald Trump maintains a very narrow lead in the polls, ahead of Clinton by an average of 1.0 percentage points, according to Real Clear Politics. A recent Remington Research poll has Trump four points ahead of Clinton, but a CNN/ORC poll released on Wednesday afternoon has Clinton up one point.
This is the first time Trump has paid a visit to Orlando since the deadly Pulse nightclub shooting in June, and it would not be surprising to hear the Republican candidate discuss radical Islamic terrorism in light of that attack. Although the shooter in the Orlando attack was born in the United States, Trump in June said the event was an example of why the U.S. needs to be stricter on its immigration policies. Trump has proposed a temporary ban on immigration “from regions that export terrorism and where safe vetting cannot presently be ensured.”
“The killer, whose name I will not use, or ever say, was born to Afghan parents who immigrated to the United States,” Trump said after the attack. “…The bottom line is that the only reason the killer was in America in the first place was because we allowed his family to come here.”
It remains to be seen if Trump may also touch upon LGBT issues during his speech today. After the Orlando shooting over the summer, Trump said he was horrified that the killer targeted gay Americans and that he would do more to protect them than Hillary Clinton.
Trump’s next rally will take place at the Maritime Park’s Hunter Amphitheater in Pensacola beginning at 7:00 p.m. Eastern Time. It will also be available for online streaming.
