At least seven people were injured Monday morning in an “active shooter” situation on the campus of Ohio State University in Columbus, authorities say.
A suspected attacker was dead at the scene, Columbus Police told WCMH-TV.
Students and others tweeted photos from the chaotic scene as the university advised those on campus to “run, hide, fight” because of the active shooter.
Photos showed what appeared to be a body on the ground on a sidewalk:
Ben Slaton, who tweeted the photo, said he heard gunshots and then saw the body on the ground. He said on Twitter that the man was shot by police.

Students and other witnesses said a fire alarm was pulled prior to the incident, causing people to exit buildings into the street and onto sidewalks. According to reports from witnesses on Twitter, a person in a car drove into the crowd of people and then exited the car with a gun and knife, attacking people:
Police were also checking suspicious packages, including backpacks left abandoned by students:
