Kathy Gerrity Doocy has been married to Fox & Friends co-host Steve Doocy for over 30 years. The couple are happily married and have three children – Peter, Sally and Mary. Peter Doocy also works at Fox News as a reporter.
The 60-year-old Doocy is very active on social media, sharing photos of his family whenever he can. You can follow him on Twitter and Instagram. Doocy has an estimated net worth of $2 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth.
Here’s a look at Kathy and Doocy.
1. Kathy Met Steve at WRC-TV in Washington, DC
Doocy met his wife Kathy while working at WRC-TV in Washington D.C., where he started his career after earning a B.A. in Journalism from the University of Kansas.
According to a 1989 Washington Post profile on Doocy, the two met when she was working in the sports department. The Post notes that she was a former model and even had her own ESPN show.
2. Doocy Wrote ‘The Mr. and Mrs. Happy Handbook’ Because ‘I Love My Wife’
In 2007, Doocy published his first book, The Mr. And Mrs. Happy Handbook to share how his marriage has lasted so long with readers.
“Ultimately I wrote this book because I love my wife,” Doocy told Christian Broadcast Network. Before writing the book, they even joined a dating service to prove that they were a “100 percent” perfect couple. Surprisingly, Doocy wasn’t even in the Top 500 of Kathy’s list.
Doocy also shared his “relaxed approach” to arguing with Kathy.
“I have a new relaxed approach to arguing. In the beginning, I just make sure that my wife hears what I have to say. So I’ll say it a couple of times. If she doesn’t bite, I don’t jam it down her throat,” Doocy told CBN.
He also created the “4-H Club” to remind him how to be a good husband. The four H’s are honesty, handling, humor and handcuffs. “Once you handcuff yourself to someone, be ready to throw the key away forever,” he told CBN of the last one.
3. Kathy & Steve Decided That They Wanted to Raise Their Children in 1 House During Their Childhood
Although Kathy and Doocy moved out of Washington D.C. and to New York when Peter was two years old, they tried to raise their kids in one place. This was influenced by Doocy’ father, who was a traveling salesman. They didn’t want their kids to have to pack up and move to disrupt their childhoods.
As he explained to CBN in another interview:
When my dad was a traveling salesman we moved, I think, seven times before I was 14. There was no real home. Of course, it was wherever my mom and dad were and the house we were living in. But, I thought it was important, when I became a father, and Kathy agreed, that we would live in one place. When we would move in this house, we said, “This is the place we want to raise our kids.” This is where my kids ran down the stairs. This is home and I wanted them to always know where home was.
After leaving Washington D.C. in 1989, Doocy joined WCBS-TV in New York. In 1996, he joined Fox News, where he’s been ever since.
4. Their Eldest Son Is Fox News Reporter Peter Doocy
Doocy and Kathy are the parents of 29-year-old Peter Doocy, who is also a Fox News reporter. The Villanova graduate has been working as a general assignment reporter for the network since 2009.
Peter is best known for hosting the network’s 2014 documentary The Man Who Killed Osama Bin Laden, the highest-rated documentary in the network’s history at the time. He also covered the 2013 Boston Marathon Bombing, the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting and the last three presidential elections for FNC.
5. Their Daughter Mary Works for the House Oversight Committee
Doocy and Kathy also have two daughters.
According to her LinkedIn page, Mary has been counsel for the House Oversight Committee since May 2016. Before that, she served as a legislative assistant in Congressman Mike Pompeo‘s office. Like her brother, Mary also attended Villanova, earning her J.D. in 2015. She also has a B.A. in English and Philosophy from Boston College.
Younger sister Sally Doocy is currently as sales planner at Fox News, according to her LinkedIn bio. She also worked as an intern in former President George W. Bush’s office in 2015. She has a B.A. in Advertising from Southern Methodist University.
