Brock Beck, the son of former National Hockey League player Barry Beck, was stabbed to death in the early hours of Sunday morning on July 26 in Binbrook, Ontario, Canada, according to a Hamilton Police press release.

Police said they believe the 20-year-old man may have been the victim of a road rage incident and they are asking anyone with information to contact the Hamilton Major Crime Unit, Detective David Brewster at 905-546-4067 or anonymously call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Brock Beck’s father is former New York Rangers captain Barry Beck, who also played for the Colorado Rockies and Los Angeles Kings. At the age of 30, he retired from the sport after suffering a severe shoulder injury, as the New York Times reported in 1987.

Police Believe Brock Beck May Have Been Killed in a Road Rage Incident

In a press release, Hamilton Police reported that they responded to 3063 Binbrook Road at around 2 a.m. and found the 20-year-old Brock Beck with injuries from a stabbing, as well as a 16-year-old who was also described as injured but was released. Beck was taken to a hospital but died from his injuries.

According to police, the suspects were tailgating Beck’s 2011 gray Ford Fusion in a white four-door sedan and eventually confronted Beck and his friend in person. In an update, police reported that they believe the stabbing “may have been fuelled by road rage” at an intersection in the center of Binbrook.

Police released video and still images of the suspect car:

According to police, Beck had been at a small gathering at which “alcohol was a factor.” The approximately seven attendees of the gathering have cooperated with the investigation, in which police have interviewed more than a dozen people, they said.

On Tuesday, July 28, police provided two suspect descriptions:

  • Suspect 1 – Male with darker skin, with a perm style haircut and possibly a muscular build.
  • Suspect 2 – Male white, longer hair that has been pushed back.

Police said they believe there are more than two suspects in the incident but aren’t sure how many. They said neither the suspects nor the suspect vehicle were at the gathering and they believe there was no prior connection between the suspects and the victims. “Police continue to ask for the public’s help in solving this case,” they wrote.

Barry Beck Wrote on Facebook, ‘I Never Got to Say Goodbye but I See Your Face With Your Beautiful Smile’

According to police, at the time of his killing, Brock Beck had only been home for about a month after being away at college in Nova Scotia studying mental health, the CBC reported.

Beck’s father wrote an emotional post in which he expressed regret at not being able to be there in his son’s final moments and asked god to have mercy upon the assailants’ souls. “My son Brock Cameron Beck was stabbed multiple times last night and died at the scene in Binbrook, Ontario, Canada. Brock bled to death on the ground, alone,” he wrote in part. “May god have mercy upon the assailants souls. I love and miss you my beloved son Brock Cameron Beck for eternity. I never got to say goodbye but I see your face with your beautiful smile. May God please forgive me for not being there to help my son when he needed me most.”

Brock Beck would have turned 21 in just four months on November 30.
