The video shows Martinez speaking with an employee at the cash register. She then takes the lid off the soup, words are exchanged, and she throws the soup in the employee’s face before storming out of the restaurant.

The victim, restaurant manager Janelle Browland, told FOX44 that Martinez called the restaurant to complain that the plastic lid from the to-go soup container had melted into her soup. Martinez asked to speak to a manager, Browland identified herself as a manager, then Martinez “used many choice words – so Janelle hung up the phone,” the outlet reported.

Martinez called back a few minutes later, and Browland said she put the call on hold while she helped other customers, the manager told FOX44, adding that when she returned to the line, the call had been disconnected.

“A few minutes later, that’s when my host came and got me and said, ‘There’s this lady here talking about her to-go order,’” she told the outlet. “And I just thought to myself, ‘Okay, here we go.’”

That’s when the events in the video transpired.

“Janelle told FOX 44 that the soup was not as hot as it is when served, but it was still warm – and menudo is typically a spicy soup, so the spices did burn her eyes and gave her two separate nose bleeds,” the outlet reported.

“We do not condone this type of behavior and hold our citizens to the highest standard,” Temple Police Deputy Chief Allen Teston said near the beginning of the investigation, according to KWTX. “If a citizen believes they have received poor service we advise them to remain civil until the problem is resolved.”

Martinez was banned from the restaurant, the TV station reported.

Social media accounts in her name that come up through data-mining sites appear to have been deleted.

In addition to speaking with media about the experience, Browland gave her side of the story in a TikTok video.

She said Martinez first called “saying that her soup was so hot that it had melted the plastic lid into the soup. … I, of course, was offering her refunds, and trying to get her an alternate meal, a free meal … . She did not want to hear it at all. All she wanted to do was yell and cuss.”

The manager claims she asked the caller to not yell and curse at her, which prompted the customer to say, “Oh no honey you haven’t heard attitude yet and I will talk to you any which way I f****** want.”

That’s when Browland says she hung up the phone. The woman called back and called Browland a b**** and demanded to speak to a different manager, her TikTok video says. Browland put her on hold for about 60 seconds and told her she needed a moment.

Then, the woman showed up at the restaurant with the soup, Browland said.

“She had come to the restaurant; she still continued to curse and scream at me and tell me that she was not being rude to me until I was rude to her. … I was definitely not rude to her on the phone. … She never once accepted or asked for a refund or free food. … She did not care. All she wanted to do was complain,” Browland says in the video.

“I said if you do not leave or calm down I’m going to call the police, and she said I don’t give a f***. … I said ma’am I can still help you. … That is when she made the split decision to grab the hot menudo and throw it in my face. … The spices from our soup definitely affected me more than anything. It really felt like I had just been pepper sprayed.”

She says she called the police.
