Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump will hold a rally in Miami, Florida this evening.
Trump’s event will take place at the James L. Knight Center in Miami beginning at 6:00 p.m. Eastern Time. It can be viewed in the embedded YouTube player via Right Side Broadcasting.
This will be Trump’s first time speaking since holding a press conference to admit that Barack Obama was born in the United States. While he was expected to elaborate on this issue for the majority of his Friday morning address, Trump instead spent a significant amount of the time promoting his new hotel and then talked about Obama’s birthplace for less than 30 seconds.
Trump also incorrectly stated that Hillary Clinton was the one to first raise questions about Barack Obama’s birthplace. Some Clinton supporters did indeed question Obama’s background in the 2008 primary, but never was the campaign involved.
Trump’s statement also implied that he had moved on from questioning Obama’s birthplace after the certificate was released in 2011. This is also not true; Trump continued to question whether Obama’s birth certificate was real as recently as January 2016.
In Florida, where Trump’s rally is being held this evening, Trump has been doing well in the polls, currently ahead of Clinton by 0.7 points in Real Clear Politics’ polling average. FiveThirtyEight currently forecasts that Trump has a 51.6 percent chance of winning Florida.
