While Donald Trump found himself in a fight for the Wisconsin Republican primary, he is headed to more favorable territory. The GOP candidates head to New York next for an April 19 primary.
There are 95 delegates at stake in the primary, and Trump has a sizable advantage in his home state. According to RealClear Politics, Trump has an average lead of 32 percentage points on the field.
The early polling data is bad news for Ted Cruz who finds himself in third in some of the early polls. While Trump has a lead on Cruz in the delegate race, the big question is whether Trump can reach the 1,237 delegates needed to secure the nomination.
If neither candidate has 1,237 delegates, it becomes likely that the GOP is headed towards a contested convention. This scenario favors Cruz given the public backlash Trump has received from members of the Republican establishment.
Here’s a look at the latest New York GOP polls.
