Today it was revealed that Shellie Zimmerman, the wife of George Zimmerman, has filed for divorce, however, George Zimmerman’s brother says that Shellie is “preparing” and has not yet filed the divorce papers. George Zimmerman was acquitted in the shooting of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin in July.

1. As Recently as Last Week She Was Publicly Contemplating Divorce
Recently in an interview with ABC’s Good Morning America, Shellie Zimmerman revealed that the marriage between her and George Zimmerman have been “strained.” She explained that the two lived in a trailer in the woods in hopes that brazen vigilantes wouldn’t find them. But, after all of the things the couple endured together, Shellie refused to tell ABC whether the two were still together.
2. She Recently Pleaded Guilty to Perjury and Was Put on Probation

On Tuesday July 9, five days before her soon-to-be ex-husband was acquitted in the slaying of Trayvon Martin, Shellie Zimmerman was arrested to perjury. She reportedly lied during a bail hearing about her family’s finances and their ability to provide their own legal defense.
For her plea, Shellie Zimmerman was sentenced to one year probation and community service rather than the maximum charge of 15 years she could have received.
3. She Will Be Doing her Community Service at a Christian Ministry
George Zimmerman is reportedly an observant Catholic and much has been written on his faith. There are also recorded incidents in which Zimmerman claimed to feel ashamed for having broken the commandment against killing.
Less is know about Shellie Zimmerman’s religious belief, but it has been reported that she will be doing the community service mandatory in her guilty plea at a Christian ministry.
4. They Were Married in November 2007
The couple were married in Daytona Beach, Florida in November 2007. Her maiden name was Dean. The couple have no children.
5. George Zimmerman Hasn’t Been Seen in Public Since August 22

The last time George Zimmerman was seen in public was August 22 when he made an appearance at a gun manufacturing company in Cocoa, Florida. TMZ reported that he was asking questions about the legality of a shotgun, specifically the Kel-Tec KSG. Kel-Tec is also the manufacturer that produced the gun George Zimmerman used to kill Trayvon Martin.
