After a surgery implanted cochlear implants in her ear, 39-year-old Joanne Milne from Gateshead, England, can hear for the first time. The incredible moment was caught on film, and you can watch the heartwarming scene above.
Milne was born with a rare condition called Usher Syndrome, which took her hearing from birth, and her site in her mid-20s.
The start of the now-viral video told UK’s The Journal, “The switch-on was the most emotional and overwhelming experience of my life and I’m still in shock now. I have to learn to recognize what these sounds are as I build a sound library in my brain.”
