Lashley, Lawler And Noons Featured At Strikeforce: L.A.

Strikeforce is making the move to Los Angeles, California at the Nokia Theater L.A. LIVE on June 16 and the promotion announced today that Bobby Lashley, Robbie Lawler, and K.J. Noons would be making the trip as well.

Lashley, a former WWE champion, turned to a career in mixed martial arts in 2008 and proceeded to win his first five professional bouts, including his most recent trouncing of Wes Sims at “Strikeforce: Miami”. The promotion is pushing Lashley as the future of a heavyweight division which includes Fedor Emelianenko, Brett Rogers, and Alistair Overeem.

Also included on the summer card, “Ruthless” Robbie Lawler will look to build upon his incredible comeback victory over sensational striker Melvin Manhoef at “Strikeforce: Miami”. Lawler was once at the very top of the middleweight division, but a Jake Shields guillotine choke sent him back in the 185-pound weight division. The Los Angeles event will be another opportunity for Lawler to work towards another championship shot, as the middleweight is rumored to be fighting fellow contender Jason “Mayhem” Miller.

The final fighter announced today for the L.A. event is former-EliteXC lightweight champion K.J. Noons. Noons won the title back in 2007 over Nick Diaz and defended it in 2008 with a victory over Yves Edwards. Following the defense, Noons was absent from the cage for just under two years. He returned this March with a unanimous decision victory over Andre Amade at DREAM 13.

Strikeforce’s Los Angeles event may not have any official fights just yet, but the promotion has announced several big names for the card. Tickets for the event go on sale May 1, but for the “Strikeforce Insiders” and Nokia Theater L.A. LIVE e-newsletter subscribers, a pre-sale option is available tomorrow, April 29. The pre-sale will be available from 10 a.m. PT Thursday to 10 p.m. PT Friday. Check out Strikeforce’s official website for more details.
