Charles Logan ripped a metal pole from the side of his hospital bed and went on a violent rampage against staff on the night of November 2. Fox Twin Cities reports that Logan, 68, had been brought to the hospital due to mental illness. His relatives believe this illness was brought on due to the medication he was taking.
One of the nurses he hit, not seriously, is eight-months-pregnant.
The attack happened at St. John’s Hospital in Maplewood, Minnesota. The Maplewood Police Chief Paul Schnell told the media:
In an instant — literally an instant — it becomes mayhem. Everything we’ve been able to learn talking to friends and family of Mr. Logan, this was not him. That confusion and level of paranoia and violence was never part of his background and nor was it expected.
Logan ran outside the hospital where he was chased by security guards. When guards brought him back to the hospital, he was unresponsive, Logan was then pronounced dead, reports the St. Paul Pioneer Press.
