A Milwaukee teacher’s aide was arrested and is potentially facing criminal charges after he was caught on video attacking a student in a high school classroom.
You can watch the 17-second video above.
The aide, a 39-year-old man, has not been identified, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. The student in the video is 14. School district officials said the incident occurred at about 11 a.m. Wednesday at Bay View High School.
In a statement, the school district spokesman called the incident “deeply disturbing” and said the paraprofessional seen in the video faces discipline up to being fired.
“As soon as the school administration was notified of the incident, the Milwaukee Police Department was contacted and the staff member was removed from the classroom,” spokesman Tony Tagliavia said in a statement.
Officials said the lead teacher in the classroom ran to get security, who pulled the aide off the student.
The aide was arrested, but no charges have been filed yet. The student was taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
Another 14-year-old student who was in the classroomtold CBS58, “[The student] was talking stuff and then the teacher came, slammed him on the chair, and started choking him saying you don’t know who you’re [expletive] messing with.”
Police are continuing to investigate before presenting the case to the Milwaukee district attorney’s office.
