The Donald Trump campaign announced this morning that it will need a new campaign manager. That’s because the controversial Corey Lewandowski is leaving the campaign.
“The Donald J. Trump Campaign for President, which has set a historic record in the Republican primary having received almost 14 million votes, has today announced that Corey Lewandowski will no longer be working with the campaign,” campaign spokeswoman, Hope Hicks, told the New York Times. “The campaign is grateful to Corey for his hard work and dedication and we wish him the best in the future.”
A source told the Times that a move was in the plans for awhile to shift focus to the general election. The Times’ source also said that the campaign will now focus on bringing the party together, which will become increasingly important with a Free The Delegates campaign now running.
UPDATE: It’s now reported that Trump’s daughter, Ivanka Trump, requested that he get rid of Lewandowski or she wouldn’t help the campaign. Jared, Trump’s son-in-law, is also taking a later behind-the-scenes role, according to CNN.
Lewandowski was a controversial figure and often clashed with the press. He was even arrested on simple battery charges after a confrontation with Brietbart.com’s Michelle Fields in March. Those charges were later dropped.
