The Louisville Metro Police Department has released body camera video showing the fatal shooting of a 32-year-old burglary suspect on February 11.
William Young, a homeless man who was hiding in a home in the 1200 block of Oleanda Avenue near Taylor Boulevard in the Kentucky, was pronounced dead at the scene of multiple gunshot wounds, the Louisville Courier-Journal reports.
A Louisville police officer was hospitalized after he was shot in the hand, but it is not clear how the officer was shot. Police said Young charged at the officer and struck him in the chest with a metal object, according to the Courier-Journal.
The video shows officers climbing stairs to were Young is hiding. Moments after reaching the top of the stairs, Young pops up in the corner and is shot multiple times. The body cam video can be watched below:
The video posted to Youtube by the departments includes body cam footage from two officers involved in the shooting.
The shooting remains under investigation.
Louisville Police held a press conference to discuss the shooting. You can watch the press conference below:
Young’s family is questioning the shooting, and say he was unarmed when he was shot more than 10 times by the Louisville officers.
“My brother weighed 130 pounds soaking wet,” Christopher Hall told the Courier-Journal. “There’s no way you can justify putting over 10 bullets in my little brother. … What could he have possibly done that would justify him being shot so many times?”
