Starting again
Herbig will start Sunday's game against the Bengals in place of the injured Alex Highsmith (ankle), Mark Kaboly of 93.7 The Fan Pittsburgh reports. Herbig also started in place of Highsmith the last two weeks, playing on 81 percent and 76 percent of the defensive snaps in those games, respectively. The 2023 fourth-round pick has 15 tackles (10 solo), including 3.5 sacks, three forced fumbles and a fumble recovery in seven games and on 223 defensive snaps this season.
Past hamstring issue
Herbig (hamstring) was a full participant in Wednesday's practice, Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports. The Wisconsin product has been sidelined for the Steelers' last four games after sustaining a hamstring injury in the team's Week 5 win over the Cowboys. However, Wednesday's full practice suggests Herbig has moved past the issue and will return for Pittsburgh's Week 11 divisional matchup against the Ravens. He's expected to serve as a rotational edge rusher Sunday.
Expects to play vs. Ravens
Herbig (hamstring) is expected to play in Week 11 versus Baltimore, Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. Herbig has been sidelined for Pittsburgh's last four games due to a hamstring injury he suffered in Week 5 versus Dallas, but it now looks like he could return to action as soon as Sunday. A clearer picture of his status will come with the Steelers' first official practice report of the week Wednesday.
Remains out for Week 10
Herbig (hamstring) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against Washington, Mike DeFabo of The Athletic reports. Herbig suffered a hamstring injury during the Steelers' Week 5 loss to the Cowboys. He missed the next three games as a result, but he looked to be trending towards a return following Pittsburgh's bye. Herbig opened this week with consecutive limited practices, but he was a DNP on Friday and will be sidelined for a fourth straight game. Even with Herbig out for Sunday's game, the Steelers will have depth at outside linebacker in Preston Smith, who was acquired from the Packers before the Nov. 5 trade deadline.
Won't play Week 8
Herbig (hamstring) is ruled out for Monday's game against the Giants, Dale Lolley of the Steelers' official site reports. Herbig will miss a third straight game due to his lingering hamstring injury. The Steelers will benefit from a bye after Monday's game against New York, meaning Herbig will have extra time to rest before working to retake the field Week 10 on the road at Washington.
Misses practice Thursday
Herbig (hamstring) did not participate at the Steelers' practice Thursday, Teresa Varley of the team's official website reports. Herbig was already viewed as unlikely to play in Week 8 versus the Giants and Thursday's absence seems to suggest that he won't be able to go. With the Steelers playing on Monday Night Football, Herbig will have an additional day to return to the practice field and flip the script on the current expectations.
Ruled out for Week 8
Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said Tuesday that Herbig (hamstring) will not play Monday versus the Giants, Mike DeFabo of The Athletic reports. Herbig will miss a third straight game as he continues working his way back from a hamstring issue initially sustained Week 5 versus the Cowboys. As long as Herbig remains sidelined, Jeremiah Moon will be in position to continue handling an expanded role on defense.
Won't play vs. Jets
Coach Mike Tomlin said Tuesday that Herbig (hamstring) won't play in Sunday's game versus the Jets, Alan Saunders of SteelersNow.com reports. Herbig will miss his second consecutive outing as he tends to a hamstring injury he suffered in Week 5 versus the Cowboys. In his absence, Jeremiah Moon figures to continue to see an uptick in reps.
Won't play versus Las Vegas
Coach Mike Tomlin ruled out Herbig (hamstring) for Sunday's Week 6 game against the Raiders, Missi Matthews of the Steelers' official site reports. Herbig was injured in this past Sunday night's loss to the Cowboys and will join Alex Highsmith (groin) as out for the game versus Las Vegas. Herbig had been filling in for Highsmith opposite T.J. Watt. Jeremiah Moon appears to be the next man up off the edge for the Steelers.
