Austin secured his lone target for 17 yards during Sunday's 27-24 loss to Indianapolis. Austin tallied a career-high 95 receiving yards during last week's win over the Chargers, but he didn't see as much work during Sunday's Week 4 defeat. Despite his encouraging performance in Week 3, Austin has been limited to just one catch in three of the first four games of the regular season, and hasn't yet established himself as a consistent fantasy option.

Calvin Austin Latest News
Held to one catch in defeat
Austin secured his lone target for 17 yards during Sunday's 27-24 loss to Indianapolis. Austin tallied a career-high 95 receiving yards during last week's win over the Chargers, but he didn't see as much work during Sunday's Week 4 defeat. Despite his encouraging performance in Week 3, Austin has been limited to just one catch in three of the first four games of the regular season, and hasn't yet established himself as a consistent fantasy option.
Scores 55-yard TD in win
Austin caught four of five targets for 95 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 20-10 win over the Chargers. He also had two punt returns for 20 yards. Austin took a slant to the house for a 55-yard touchdown to round out the scoring in the fourth quarter. He came into the game with just 13 receiving yards this season, so Austin will likely need to prove this performance wasn't a one-off to earn lineup consideration in the majority of fantasy formats. Up next for Austin and the Steelers is a Week 4 trip to Indianapolis.
Not on injury report
Austin (undisclosed) is not listed on Wednesday's injury report. Austin spent time in the blue medical tent late during Sunday's win over the Broncos, but he isn't carrying an official injury as Week 3 practices kick off. In addition to returning five punts for 27 total yards versus Denver, Austin reeled in one of two targets for six yard. He stands to play a similar role versus the Chargers in Week 3.
Held to one catch in Week 2
Austin secured one of two targets for six yards during Sunday's 13-6 win over Denver. Austin saw limited looks in the passing game once again Sunday, but he exited Sunday's Week 2 matchup in the fourth quarter after taking a hard hit that drew an unnecessary roughness call, per Alan Saunders of SteelersNow.com reports. Austin went to the blue medical tent before emerging with his helmet on, but he didn't return to the game. The exact nature of his injury is unclear, and whether he'll be available for next Sunday's Week 3 matchup against the Chargers remains to be seen. Despite Austin's limited work in the passing game, he returned five punts for a total of 27 yards. If he's unable to suit up against the Chargers, Scotty Miller is a candidate to see increased work for Pittsburgh, both on offense and as a punt returner.
Targeted twice against Atlanta
Austin secured one of two targets for seven yards during Sunday's 18-10 win over Atlanta. The Steelers' offense struggled to generate much production during Sunday's low-scoring matchup, but Austin was one of three wide receivers to draw at least one target. Austin impressed during offseason activities, but it's unclear whether he'll develop into a fantasy-relevant option in 2024 after securing 17 of 30 targets for 180 yards and a touchdown while appearing in every game last year.
Paces team in receiving yards
Austin secured two of his three targets for 49 yards during Friday's 20-12 preseason loss to the Texans. Austin had a limited impact on offense in 2023, securing 17 of 30 targets for 180 yards and a touchdown while rushing 11 times for 57 yards and a touchdown. However, the Steelers lost Diontae Johnson, Allen Robinson and Miles Boykin during the offseason, so there should be more targets available during the 2024 campaign. Austin impressed during OTAs and minicamp this spring and has carried that momentum into the start of training camp, showcasing his versatility by lining up on the outside as well as in the slot. While the Steelers also have several other receivers competing for targets during the preseason, Austin had a strong start Friday by leading the team in receiving yards.
Building momentum
Austin has continued his momentum from spring practices into training camp, according to Alan Saunders of Steelers Now. A 2022 fourth-round pick, Austin missed his entire rookie season with a foot injury and then got just 30 targets and 11 carries last year. He's now part of a wide-open competition for WR roles behind No. 1 George Pickens, with the other leading candidates being Van Jefferson and rookie third-round pick Roman Wilson. Austin is one of the smallest players in the league at 5-foot-9, 162 pounds, but he's reportedly been getting some work on the perimeter in addition to expected slot reps.
Set to compete for WR slotting
As the coming season approaches, Austin is in line to compete with several newcomers for depth chart slotting behind top wideout George Pickens, Chris Ward of Steelersnow.com reports. In the wake of the offseason departures of Diontae Johnson and Allen Robinson, the Steelers added Van Jefferson, Quez Watkins and Scott Miller via free agency and used a third-round draft pick on Roman Wilson. Austin, who was taken in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, is coming off a 2023 regular season in which he caught 17 of his 30 targets for 180 yards and a TD while rushing 11 times for 57 yards and a TD in 17 games. In his third season as a pro, the speedy 5-foot-9, 162-pounder has an opportunity to carve out an increased role in Pittsburgh's offense under new coordinator Arthur Smith.
Injures ankle in win
Tomlin didn't provide any other update on the severity of Austin's injury, so his practice participation leading up to Week 13 against the Cardinals will indicate whether he'll miss time or not. Austin caught his lone target for five yards in Sunday's win.
