DeShon Elliott: Everything you need to know

Elliott (knee) recorded 38 total tackles (20 solo), including 1.0 sacks, while also adding two passes defensed, one of which was an interception, and a forced fumble over five games during the 2025 regular season. Elliott suffered a sprained MCL in Pittsburgh's Week 1 win over the Jets before he later suffered a season-ending knee injury against the Packers in Week 8. The safety was rather productive when active, but the five appearances set a new career-low for the 28-year-old. Elliott signed a two-year, $12.5 million contract extension with the Steelers prior to the year, so he'll look to get back to full strength and compete for a starting role with the team in 2026.

The Steelers placed Elliott (knee) on injured reserve Friday. The move was expected and knocks Elliott out for at least the next four contests. Pittsburgh has already made a move to replace the injured safety after the team acquired Kyle Dugger from the Patriots in a trade earlier this week.

The Steelers are expected to place Elliott (knee) on IR due to an injury he sustained during Sunday's loss to the Packers, Alan Saunders of SteelersNow.com reports. Steelers coach Mike Tomlin called Elliott "week-to-week" Tuesday, and the team also acquired Kyle Dugger in a trade with New England to provide additional depth at safety. Both developments are signals that Elliott's knee injury will require time on the sideline. Once officially placed on IR, Elliott will be ruled out for a requisite minimum of four games.
