Sewell (ankle) is active for Sunday's game versus Tampa Bay. Despite missing Detroit's first two practices during the week, Sewell will continue to play through his lingering ankle injury in Week 2. He should see a healthy dose of reps across from both Yaya Diaby and Joe Tryon-Shoyinka.

Good to go vs. Bucs
Questionable for Week 2
Sewell (ankle) is listed as questionable for Sunday's contest versus Tampa Bay. Sewell has been dealing with an ankle injury since late August, but he was able to play in Week 1 versus the Rams. However, the right tackle sat out of practice both Wednesday and Thursday this week before logging a limited session Friday. If Sewell is unable to suit up Sunday, Dan Skipper may be asked to step into a starting role.
Ready for Week 1
Sewell (ankle) was not listed on the Lions' estimated injury report Wednesday. Sewell should officially be ready to go Sunday against the Rams. Although the report was just an estimate, it does corroborate previous reports that the Oregon product wouldn't miss the season opener. Having the All-Pro tackle on the field Week 1 should be good news for the entirety of Detroit's offense.
Should be good for Week 1
Head coach Dan Campbell appeared optimistic Saturday that Sewell (ankle) will be good to go for Week 1 against the Rams, Colton Pouncy of The Athletic reports. Sewell was forced to leave Wednesday's practice due to an ankle injury, but the MRI came back negative. Sewell has made the Pro Bowl in each of the last two seasons as the Lions' starting right tackle, and he has started in all 50 games he's played over the last three years.
Avoids serious injury
Sewell received a clean MRI on the foot that he injured during practice Wednesday, Jared Ramsey of the Detroit Free Press reports. Sewell injured his foot during scrimmage against the Lions' first-team defense Wednesday. He was able to walk off the field and to the team's facility under his own power, and the subsequent MRI confirmed that the 2021 first-round pick avoided serious injury. It's good news for Detroit, whose offense is already dealing with hamstring injuries to Jahmyr Gibbs and Sam LaPorta. It appears Sewell should be good to go for Week 1 against the Rams.
Exits practice early
Sewell left practice early Wednesday with a foot injury, Justin Rogers of DetroitFootball.net reports. Sewell was able to walk off the field under his own power, albeit slowly, after being checked on by trainers. Any potential missed time for the All-Pro tackle would be a significant blow for the Lions' offensive line with just over two weeks until they kick off their 2024 campaign against the Rams on Sept. 8.
Inks massive extension
Sewell and the Lions agreed to terms Wednesday on a four-year, $112 million contract extension, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports. Sewell's deal, which reportedly includes $85 million guaranteed, makes him the highest-paid offensive lineman in the NFL. The tackle has played at a high level since joining Detroit as the No. 7 overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft, but he took a step forward in 2023 while earning first-team All-Pro honors. In addition to the elite RT, the Lions extended top wideout Amon-Ra St. Brown to a four-year extension Wednesday, both one day in advance of the 2024 NFL Draft kicking off.
